SYNOPIS:
After a disastrous mission with the team, Aqualad returns to Atlantis to choose between a life on the surface world … or one beneath the waves with the
Aquagirl of his dreams. But other forces are at play, which may make Aqualad's decision for him.
In Gotham City, Clayface knocks out Young Justice, with Aqualad the last to fall. As the villain moves in for the clear, Batman drops in and
defeats the villain. Afterward, Batman talks to Kaldur in private and tells him that his head isn't in the game. Kaldur agrees and admits that he's thinking
of someone he left behind in Atlantis, and Batman tells him to focus or leave.
Later, Kaldur teleports into the Atlantean city of Poseidonis, where Aquaman greets him and invites him to dinner with the Royal Family. Kaldur agrees and
asks to bring a friend. Aquaman agrees, and then goes to the training academy where his friends, including Topo, are working to hone their skills. Topo
relates the story of how Garth and Kaldur proved themselves to Aquaman, and how Kaldur became Aqualad while Garth remained at the academy. Kaldur finds Queen
Mera training Tula and Garth, and promises to meet with her over dinner that night. Once Mera leaves, Kaldur invites Tula to accompany him, and admits that
he wishes he could invite Garth as well. Tula agrees and leaves for class with Garth, who tells Tula that she has to see him.
Prince Orm meets with chief scientist Vulko at the science center, and they check on a frozen star creature that is confined in the labs.
At Mount Justice, Superboy is watching a blank television screen. Miss Martian invites him to help her make dinner, but then spills ingredients on him. She
hesitates, staring at him. A few minutes later, Red Tornado comes in and finds a food-covered Superboy watching the blank television and Miss Martian
cooking.
Outside of Poseidonis, Black Manta leads his men on an assault on the city.
In Gotham City, Robin is practicing at Wayne Manor and expressing his frustrations at the fact that Aqualad is in charge and Batman is spending more time
with him. Alfred arrives to call him out to meet Bruce, who wants Robin to participate in some one-on-one basketball training.
At supper, Prince Orm tells the others about the frozen star creature, while Kaldur notes that he's considering returning to the conservatory. Mera warns
that he has fallen behind in his studies and looks at Tula as he suggests he needs a tutor.
In Central City, Wally West, Kid Flash, is having a birthday dinner with his family, including his uncle Barry Allen, the Flash, and retired super speedster
Jay Garrick. It's Jay's birthday, but Wally ends up eating all of the ice cream at superspeed.
Aquaman and Mera announce that Mera is pregnant. Kaldur congratulates them and then apologizes to Prince Orm, Aquaman's brother. Orm insists that he is fine
with the news. Aquaman receives word of a Justice League emergency and heads for the teleporter, asking Kaldur to go with him. As they swim, Aquaman says
that he can sympathize with Kaldur's dilemma, and assures him that he'll make the right choice.
Black Manta's men move into position. Meanwhile, Kaldur and Tula are outside and he tells her that he's going to stay in Atlantis with her. In response, Tula
tells him that she's with Garth. Before Kaldur can respond, explosives go off through Atlantis, bringing down large parts of the city. As the city's forces
attempt to help the injured, Black Manta's men gun them down. Aqualad and Tula swim to the attack and defeat the first wave, while Mera, Orm, and others take
on the second wave. Kaldur realizes that the initial attack was planned to lure the forces into ambush, leaving them vulnerable. As Garth swims to help Tula,
a soldier takes aim at him and Tula blocks the shot.
In a lull between battles, Kaldur realizes that Black Manta and his men are heading for the science center. Prince Orm refuses to abandon Mera, and Kaldur
tells Garth to stay with the injured Tula while he deals with Black Manta.
In Gotham City, Artemis is checking her arrows in her bedroom when her wheelchair-confined mother tells her that she's won a scholarship to the Gotham
Academy. Artemis isn't interested in changing schools, but her mother says that she'll either go, or abandon her extracurriculars. Her daughter refuses at
first, and her mother says that it's the chance that she never had. Artemis reconsiders and then agrees.
Black Manta breaks into the science lab and disposes of the few remaining guards, and then starts cutting through the ceiling dome. Meanwhile, Garth
accompanies Kaldur into the building, and Garth insists that his place is at Kaldur's side. They take out two of Black Manta's men and don their uniforms,
but Black Manta quickly spots them as imposters and attacks. He dismisses Kaldur as a fool for serving Aquaman and tries to kill Garth. Kaldur gets his
friend out of the way long enough for Garth to summon the power of the tempest. Meanwhile, Black Manta's men finish cutting through the dome and start
lifting the ice block containing the star creature. Garth destroys the cable, causing the ice block to fall and partially shatter. Black Manta resolves to
destroy the creature to keep anyone else from getting it and fires a missile. Garth shields himself and Kaldur from the blast, and Black Manta escapes in his
sub.
Later, Aquaman returns and thanks them all for their help. They have one small sample of the creature left, and will need to turn it over to the surface
world for study. Aquaman turns to Kaldur, who says that he will serve as Aqualad. As he departs, he wishes Garth and Tula the best of luck, and admits that
he's never considered what would happen if he had stayed.
Aqualad returns to Mount Justice and Batman asks if he's ready. Kaldur says that he is, and Batman prepares the team for their next mission in Bialya.
Black Manta contacts the representatives of the Light and tells them that he failed to acquire the creature, but succeeded at their secondary objective.

Black Manta: (to Aqualad) Such a waste. You really have no ambition beyond serving Aquaman. Aren't schools of others willing to die for their king?
In the comics, Black Manta is the father of Aqualad. It is not yet clear if in this version, they will be related or not. Also in the comics, Tula and Garth do date and she becomes Aquagirl.
