Batmobile
The Batman EXP Series 1: Mattel, 2005 SKU# J1963
The new Batmobile from the TV series The Batman for the new The Batman EXP (Extreme Power) figures was recently released along with the first waves of figures just before Christmas 2005. It is just slightly larger than the previous Batmobile for The Batman released in 2004. It borrows design cues from both original and “Batwave” versions of the Batmobile as well as a bit from TNBA version.
This Batmobile is the “Muscle Car Batmobile” and is gloss black with a large chrome and translucent blue “engine” protruding from the hood. Red lights illuminate each of the four translucent blue sections, which are the same size and shape as the “Power Keys” included with each of The Batman EXP Batman figures, by either pressing the yellow “Try Me” button on the hood or switching it to activate using the rear wheels by the rolling it. The lights have five different flashing sequences and the sound effects include a turbine revving up and tires screeching doing a burnout. The rear wheels also have a yellow light that flashes in the center.
It has blue accent stripes on the rear fenders and roof and silver and blue “intake/exhaust” pieces similar to previous Batmobiles that are on the lower sides with a triangular shaped “jet exhaust” in the rear. It comes with a yellow disc that fires from a slot in the front by pressing a button just before the “engine”.
This Batmobile is a closed cabin with a single seat and a roof that flips backward to put The Batman in. The inside is bright yellow and there were no decals of instruments to put inside. I found this a bit odd because many previous Batmobiles have a sticker sheet of instruments and gauges to use.
SPECS:
13” Long, 5 5/8” Wide, 3” Tall. Electronic sounds and lights, one firing disc.
PROS:
It has decent play value and most Batman figures should fit nicely in the driver compartment. The buttons are easy to use and the car is put together very well. The tail fins, jet exhaust and lower front bumper/fenders are all soft rubber. While the rest of the Batmobile is hard plastic there are no sharp hard pieces to hurt kids on it.
CONS:
None really, it’s a step up from the previous version but that “gun slit” that Batman has to “see” though is the smallest on any Batmobile, assuming he could see past the engine.
OVERALL:
Nice to see that The Batman TV show will have a Batmobile that evolves over time. Naturally Batman collectors will want one, but I think other more casual collectors may get one too, especially when they go on sale.
