ORIGINAL AIR DATE: 01/31/1999
EPISODE NUMBER: 03
PRODUCTION CODE: 103
PLOT SUMMARY:
A transport truck heads towards Foxtecha (a company presumably started by Bruce's old friend Lucius Fox). The building is under heavy security as the numerous guards, retinal scanning machine, and laser-closed gate show. The driver is cleared and the laser gate raises slightly to let him in. A guard radios in, reporting that everything is fine and suggests there may be too many guards. He walks off, but his shadow doesn't move.
The shadow becomes an inky blob that start jumping from shadow to shadow. It slips underneath a door into an room full of electronic equipment and proceeds to short-circuit it, causing multiple explosions to rip through the building. Alarms sound and the place is locked down. A flying firetruck swoops in to try and put out the blaze. It orders a parked fuel tanker to exit the building before it increases the devastation. After it exits the building, the inky blob hidden takes a look at its handywork and, satisfied, escapes.
The next day, Bruce Wayne ascends an private elevator to Derek Powers office. His face does not look happy. Powers tries to make small-talk but Bruce is only intent on making his position clear. He does not want to find out that Wayne-Powers had anything to do with the sabotage at Foxtecha. Powers tries, though unconvincingly, to reassure Bruce and escorts him out. They descend the elevator together, and Powers is surprised to find out Terry is now working for Bruce as his assistant. Terry and Bruce leave to do some additional investigating.
Powers sits back in his office chair. One of the statues in his office morphs in the the inky blob and then into the shape of a woman. She does not like the fact that Bruce is snooping, but Powers dismisses these concerns and gives her a new assignment.
Back at high school, Dana and Terry are watching their high school team in a sports match, that resembles a floating lacross game in a glass tube, against a rival high school. The school jock, Nelson checks an opposing player, then winks at Dana through the glass. Dana is disgusted and suggests she should cheer for the other team, and Terry agrees. Just as they are about to share a kiss, Terry's phone rings. It's Bruce and Terry reluctantly goes off to his part time job. Dana's not happy with the abnormal hours that Terry has to work. Terry says to himself, "You have no idea."
At another Foxtecha building, the inky saboteur slips through a ventilation shaft. She finds the computer and prompty short-circuits it, causing more indoor fireworks.
Flying over the city, Terry asks if he ever gets to have a social life. Bruce tells him it's not likely. Getting back to the matter at hand, Bruce is studying some material he acquired on his hankerchief, while telling Terry (Batman) that Foxtecha and Wayne-Powers are competing for a lucrative government contract. Powers is trying to cripple the competition with sabotage and it is up to Batman to stop it. Batman sees the smoke and sparks inside the Foxtecha building and goes in to check it out.
In the Batcave, the microscope sample breaks the slide and Bruce yells for Terry to get out. Not seeing the danger, he is hit from behind. The inky woman proceeds to throw Batman around the control room for a few minutes, and then escapes through another ventilation shaft.
Returning to the Batcave, Terry is pissed that Bruce did not tell him what he was getting into. Bruce tells him his opponent is someone call Inque, a corporate saboteur. She was the result of a mutagenic experiment. They don't know a way to stop her.
Inque is continuing her job at a Foxtecha dock, toppling a crane into a freight ship in the water. It explodes. This alerts Bruce (who is monitoring radio traffic) and directs Batman to a Foxtecha shipping unit. He arrives just in time to destroy a forklift on a collision course with another building, and starts to fight Inque. After getting hit a couple times, Batman chases her to a canal reservoir. He deduces that she doesn't like the water and tries to splash some on her. Inque dodges and digs up the walkway in an attempt to throw concrete at him. Batman just barely races out of the way, until Inque herself throws him into the water. This inadvertently saves him as Inque will not follow him.
The next day, Powers is riding in his private limo where he hears that the damage was not enough to deter Foxtecha from meeting its deadline. Inque drips down from the ceiling of the car and explains that someones been interfering. Powers tell her it is Batman. This infuriates him and his skin starts to flake off causing him to glow. Inque is surprised, but does not question any further. Powers new assignment is to kill Batman. Inque says he has an accomplice. Powers does not care and tell her to finish them both off then.
Another building has been sabotaged, but Batman is too late. The police are about to arrive so Bruce tell him to come home.
Almost home, Batman comments that the car feel a bit off tonight. Bruce performs a diagnostic and finds the car is too heavy.
Inque had hitched a ride. She grabs Batman and throws him against the walls and floors of the Batcave. After a while, she proceeds to suffocate him with her own body. Just as Batman is about to pass out, Bruce (now donning the mask of the Grey Ghost) shoots water from a fire hose at Inque. Batman falls to the ground and vomits the remaining Inque. Ink begins to fuse again. Bruce turns on the water again, but Inque leaps and adhere to the ceiling, throws sharp pieces of herself to cut the hose.
Instead of continuing the attack, she attempts to head upstairs to the manor, but Bruces has sealed the door and electrified it. She goes for the ceiling, but rather than breaking through, she starts to bring the entire ceiling down on them. Trying to dodge the barrage, they're knocked under a giant coin (collected from Two-Face). Inque decides to crush them with it.
Though he manages to save Bruce, Batman's feet are trapped underneath. Inque advances on Batman from atop the coin, but he pulls out an electric Batarang and shocks her into jumping away. Furious, Inque breaks over several display cases, while Batman attempts to free himself. As she charges and leaps to deliver the finishing blow, Batman finally succeeds and grabs Mr. Freeze's gun and encases her in ice. Unable to stop her momentum, she shatters into little pieces and is finally
defeated.
At the Gotham Police Department, the new Commissioner Gordon picks up the phone and is only slightly surprised to hear Bruce's voice. Bruce informs her that his new errand boy is leaving her a gift and advises her to keep it on ice.
