Holly was unlucky enough to be born in a broken family where her parents kept arguing violently and her drunken father hit both her and her brother for no apparent reason. At 13, Holly ran away from home for reasons yet to be revealed. The street was not gentle with runaway kids and soon she had to turn to prostitution to survive. She started to work for a guy named Stan and for the first time in her life she had a bit of luck. She was being bullied by a corrupt cop when another prostitute named Selina knocked him down and rescued her. For Holly, it was a revelation: "you did not have to take everything the world dishes out". She befriended her and they shared an apartment. The woman had had a childhood very similar to Holly's and she adopted her as a younger sister. Selina was a tough one and she protected her.

When the Batman appeared in Gotham city, Selina was impressed with him. She decided not to work for Stan anymore. Instead, she would become a cat burglar and wear a costume like the Bat. Naturally, she was taking Holly with her. Of course, Stan did not like the plan. He kidnapped and tortured Selina's sister Maggie, who was preparing to be a nun. When Selina found him, she killed the man. The shock made her flip and she flipped to her Catwoman identity. Also, she left Holly with her sister sho she could be raised in her convent.

Holly did not like that life and, some years later, after the news about Selina's death arrived to the convent, both Maggie and her left the place. Maggie fell in love with a guy and Holly decided to return to Gotham. Once again, she was alone in the streets and once again she became a prostitute. This time it was even worse because she also became a junkie. At some point, probably because of the influence of her girlfriend Karon, she decided to quit drugs. She was recovering when, one night, she returned home to find Selina there. The woman was alive and not very happy to see her on the streets once more. Selina proposed her an alternative. She wanted to do some good this time and she needed someone on the streets to gather information for her. She would pay Holly to do that as long as she left prostitution again.

Holly naturally agreed but she was too proud to be passive. While trying to follow a lead on drugs on her own, she discovered that the cops in the district were involved in traffic and she got shot. She would have died if Selina had not arrived in time and took her to Leslie Thompkins. Holly has recovered now and she seems to be doing fine. Lately, she had to kill Sylvia Sinclair to save Selina's life. She is currently trying to cope with it.

One year later, Holly Robinson has taken over as the new Catwoman, replacing Selina Kyle, who has retired.during her her first appearance as Catwoman she is ambushed by Angle Man. Although Holly manages to escape, her brutal beating of Angle Man is caught on film. Reluctant to ask Selina for help, Holly turns instead to Ted Grant.

Holly is arrested for the murder of Black Mask (an act committed by Selina) but is rescued from jail by Selina.
