Character Bios - Villains - Johnny Witts

JOHNNY WITTS

Johnny Witts was a Gotham criminal who decided that the only way to commit successful burglaries was to outwit Batman and Robin. As a result, he had the Dynamic Duo observed and then set out to elude and entrap the crime fighters, keeping them off balance by sending his men out to commit robberies around the city. Over the course of several weeks, Witts carried out his crimes while Batman and Robin failed to capture him or his thugs. Every attempt the Dynamic Duo amde to apprehend them had been arranged.

What Witts hadn't anticipated was that the Gotham Police traced him to his hideaway thanks to Batman's help. The ensuing fight proved distracting enough to prevent the genuis from formulating a fresh scheme on the fly. Once in prison he found the solitude he needed to begin fashioning fresh plots, starting with a prison break.

Witts did indeed escape, albeit alone. To avoid being arrested again, he took on the persona of a fortune teller named Swami. Wearing a goatee, blue-black suit, red cape, and the requisite turban, he hired four fresh underlings and began anew. Pretending to receive guidance from his crystal ball, Witts convinced fellow criminals he was an omniscient mastermind. Batman manged to apprehend Silent Stan, one of Witt's fearsome foursome, and impersonated him to get close to the operation. Witts, though, had anticipated this and exposed Batman before the Caped Crusader could act. The other three hirelings pummeled Batman into submission; he was then left to die under the Lensolator, a powerful heat lamp. The Dark Knight freed himself and arrived at an art gallery, surprising Witts, who once more was outwitted.

When a West Coast crime syndicate set it's sights on Gotham, the city's rogues banded together to protect Batman to ensure that the mob stayed away. Witts had established himself well enough to be invited to join the Joker, Catwomna, Mad Hatter, Clue Master, Penguin and the Getaway Genius. Witts secertly saved Batman's life by detonating and explosives-laden buoy. Witts has not been seen since.
