PLOT:
Erik Dorne, a mystery writer, is murdered by a witch and his manuscript is stolen. Batman compiles and list of suspects and investigates them. When he believes he know who the killer is, he plans a trap. Though he lures, the killer into the open, Batman and Robin are captured. He learns the killer is a fifth columnist and killed Dorne to prevent that fact from being revealed. Batman escapes and unmasks the witch as Mr. Wright, Dorne’s publisher.

PLOT:
Batman and Robin tangle with an elusive costumed foe named the Grasshopper. The crook successfully steals the Batmobile during their first encounter. When the Grasshopper strikes again, he kidnaps Robin.
Batman deduces that the crook must be two different men in identical costumes. He follows one of them back to their hide-out, where the crooks attempt to lure the Caped Crusader into a trap. Batman doesn't fall for their tricks, rescues Robin, and successfully defeats both Grasshoppers.
When Batman recovers the stolen Batmobile, a mysterious individual called the Outsider reveals himself as the man who hired the Grasshoppers. Batman and Robin vow to be vigilant against future attacks by their unseen enemy.

PLOT:
Alfred writes another story about the second Batman and Robin team. In his story Batman II and Robin II face off against the Son of the Joker who uses the Joker’s old tactics against the new team. They are lured into a trap by the Joker and his protégé, but the original Batman returns to thwart the schemes of both Jokers and set the heroes free.
NOTE:
This story contains an episode of Alfred's imaginary tales featuring an adult Dick Grayson and Bruce Wayne, Jr. as Batman II and Robin II. The imaginary characters appear between the second story of Batman #135 and the first story of Batman #154. The events in Alred’s story are not part of continuity.
