PLOT:
Using a trigger-phrase mechanism similar to the one used on faux-Batmen in the Gotham Police officers, Dr. Hurt has seemingly shattered the mind of Bruce Wayne. With Batman 'deactivated' - Bruce Wayne mentally shifts over to the Batman of Zur-En-Arrh personality he had subconsciously implemented into his brain as a fail-safe contingency to use in the event that someone was able to defeat him as Dr. Hurt had. The Zur-En-Arrh Batman clearly being a reference to a hallucinatory dream brought on by Professor Milo's gas experiments in which Batman teamed up with his twin from another planet.

All of this is of course, according to Bat-Mite, Batman's 'old chum' and adviser that sits perched on Batman's shoulder, feeding him advice on how to avoid the minions of the Black Glove. But, can the imp be trusted? It appears as though a large green creature has it's hand on Bat-Mite, controlling him much the way that 'Mite appears to be controlling Bruce.

But Bat-Mite isn't the only new strange friend Bruce has. While watching Le Bossu's men arrive for a meeting with the tailor responsible for making their costumes, the gargoyles Bruce is staking out next to begin talking to him. The ageless rock creatures tell Bruce of 'the grid' - a machine of sorts, a checkerboard pattern only visible when the city is looked at with 'slow vision.' The city it seems makes the people within it just as much as the people make the city. Could the grid be responsible for creating the Batman as well? Bruce decides to make his move.

Just as violent and crazed as some of the mad-men Bruce had spent years studying in his black-casebook cases, The Zur-En-Arrh Batman smashes his way through Le Bossu's Gargoyle minions looking to trace them back to the Black Glove. He manages to find his way to Charlie Caligula and King Kraken down at the docks. Although Kraken escapes, mentally unstable Batman threatens Charlie Caligula with his 'Bat-Radia'. Before cracking and divulging Black Mask's meeting place, Charlie Caligula screams in fear wondering just what that 'thing' is behind him.

Managing to out maneuver Swagman once again, Tim steals Swagman's bike and rides off into the night. With the villain safely behind him, Tim pauses to send an email request to his last hope - the Club of Heroes! The Knight and the Squire receive Tim's distress call and decide to respond. Meanwhile at the not-so-Stately Wayne Manor, Commissioner Gordon arrives to speak with Bruce about the information the Mayor has on his family. A voice claiming to be Alfred lets Gordon in but he quickly finds that all of Wayne Manor has been booby trapped by El Sombrero!

With Gordon incapacitated of, Dr. Hurt (now claiming to be none other than Thomas Wayne himself) receives word that Caligula was kidnapped and that Batman is well on his way to their meeting point at Arkham Asylum. While Scorpiana appears to plant some sort of mechanical Scorpion on Alfred, Hurt taunts the faithful butler, claiming that Bruce is actually the bastard child of Martha and Alfred and has 'usurped' the Wayne Family fortune. Hurt heads out towards Arkham but orders Swagman and the Mime to deliver Robin to the Asylum in time for the breaking of the bat at midnight as initially promised to the Joker.

While the sky outside turns a very familiar shade of blood red, Doctor Dax (Le Bossu's alias at Arkham) is preparing to perform a lobotomy on Nightwing to remove his "violent, sociopathic tendencies". Jeremiah Arkham disagrees with Dax's techniques and forbids him from performing the surgery. Just then, Gargoyles in doctor's coats come out of the shadows and beat Jeremiah with baseball bats and clubs. Arkham Asylum is now under the control of the Black Glove!

Elsewhere on the compound, El Sombrero is leading more Gargoyles into the Asylum with Jezebel Jet in tow. While studying some sort of diagram (most likely plans to set more traps), Sombrero remarks "Could there be a more perfect setting for the fall of Batman?" The Black Glove members carry in several boxes of red and black roses with strict orders not to let the two colors touch.

Walking across a black and red checkerboard patterned floor, Le Bossu alerts the Joker that Batman is on his way. The Joker, with fingernails painted red and black smiles and prepares to welcome his enemy to their final dance.
