PLOT:
A long time ago in an otherwise hostile Mondoran countryside, a group of mystical shaman kidnapped a wounded soldier by the name of Mark Richards and took him into on of their huts. There, using their
primitive tools, they injected him with sharpened utensils tinged with a burning poison the made its way into his blood stream. This unknown elixir awakened within Mark his inner demons. His
thoughts, his fears, his every nightmare was manifested onto his skin and given life by their dark magic. He called out to God but heard nothing in return. And it made him realize that he was alone in the universe. Left with nothing but the skin on his back.
Now he sits opposite his wheel-chair bound brother Devon. Or rather, what's left of Devon Richards. You see, Devon Richards is dead. The moment rescue workers recovered his twisted and broken body from the wreckage of that convertible, life as he knew it ceased to exist. But while his family members were busy planning a funeral, government agents had taken Devon to a secret facility where they began utilizing a series of experimental procedures. Though he is still unable to walk, these procedures now allowed Devon to sync up with the brainwaves of any living human being (thus the name SYNcK). Once inside a person's brain, Synck can manipulate their central nervous system, browse through their every thought and memory, even force them to do things they otherwise wouldn't. Yet despite all this, Synck claims no responsibility for the recent strange behavior exhibited by Mark's tattoos. And this leaves only one chilling possibility.... that Mark himself is the one giving out orders to these wayward beings.
Dawn breaks over Liberty Hill and finds the city stuck in a sort of quiet unease. The street violence has been quelled for now but tensions are still on the rise and the entire city begins looking for an
escape - an end to the chaos. But with every move it seems to only dig itself further into its own grave.
Despite having caught Twisttedd's murder on tape, Kim Tanaka is receiving pressure from her bosses to keep it under wraps for fear of inciting even more gang violence. Meanwhile the Reds have decided to hold a hostile take over of the remaining Ded Boyz. The Redz leader Crim$o thinks he will be the leader of this new consolidated gang but it seems SYNcK has other plans in mind. A plan which does not sit will with Halstead and the other police.
Meanwhile, Mark Richards wakes up to find himself lying on a pew inside his local church. He's been left there, sprawled out for all to see, as a message from SYNcK. The city's would-be hero is still reeling from last night's revelations. If it's true that something deep down inside of him wanted that gangmember dead so badly that he subconsciously ordered him killed then that means only one thing. He needs to be punished.
He heads home and tells his family to leave the house. It's not safe for them there anymore. Once again, just like on that night so long ago, he's alone with no one and nothing other than the skin on his back - and the guilt that comes with it. From there he goes directly to the Liberty Hill precinct and turns himself in. He's willing to sit in jail for the murder of that gang member - even if it means losing his Justice League membership (which it does).
But can Mark somehow find a way to quiet the voices and regain control over his wayward spirits? Or will he be forced to rot in jail like the criminal he fought so hard to convince everyone that he wasn't?
