PLOT:
Penguin reflects on his family's long and storied history in Gotham City as he prepares for what he feels will most certainly be his demise. After saying good-bye to his employees
and acquaintances at the Iceberg (including a note from the Spoiler that simply read, "I'm sorry"), Oswald Cobblepot pours himself a glass of wine. Sitting with only his Umbrella gun at his side, Penguin is greeted by an old friend -
Edward Nigma!
Riddler tells Penguin that he holds no grudge against him for the beating he received from the Femme Fatales as he sees it for what it truly was - a way of saving his life. Penguin confesses that he did
in fact arrange the confrontation as a way of making sure that it was he (not Jessup) who had punished Nigma for his snooping as Jessup would most likely have just had Nigma killed. Penguin however takes
a look at the bandages on his friend's face and apologizes for the girls perhaps taking their roles a little too far. Riddler says that it was still the best beating he ever got and the two laugh as Oswald offers Edward some wine.
Finally Riddler gets down to business and attempts to talk Penguin out of making his last stand but Penguin says that he will have none of it. In fact he hands over the key to the Iceberg Lounge to Riddler as a way of making sure that
the Lounge is in good hands after he is gone. Finally, Edward says his good byes and makes his way out the door.
Before Penguin can enjoy his last glass of wine to himself he hears a loud crash as the Intergang death squad comes crashing through his doors. Luckily for him Batman steps in and saves the day. After taking out the would be
assassins, Batman takes Penguin and shows him his
"new gang." Outside, the Outsiders and the entire Bat-Family are doing battle with the forces of Intergang in an attempt to save Penguin's life.
Penguin is of course confused by this rare act of kindness but Batman makes his intentions perfectly clear. Penguin has a new boss - and his name is Batman! Penguin's life is saved and in exchange he is to help Batman chase
Intergang out of Gotham City by revealing any and all information on Intergang's businesses. Penguin wisely accepts the offer.
At the Intergang offices, Johnny Stitches finally confronts Manheim about the fact that Intergang is now doing business with Whale - the man who caused his horrible disfiguration in the first place. After a brief battle, Bruno Manheim ends up with the upper hand and
tells the patchwork mobster that this is an arrangement that he'll just have to get used to.
Finally, Commissioner Gordon is pleased to see Batman back in action and the two catch up on all of the events that have transpired while Batman was missing. As Batman
descends to the streets below, Commissioner Gordon is surprised to see Robin already on the scene. The Boy Wonder had finally snuck up on
the veteran police man. Perhaps the city is in even more capable hands than he previously thought. Perhaps Intergang's hold on the Gotham Underground is in fact only temporary. Only time will tell.
