PLOT:
Senior ranking Kobra agent Ariadne Persakis is now in Checkmate custody. Sixteen other decoy aircrafts take flight surrounding the craft that is taking Ms. Persakis to her date with the White King. But what the Justice Society and Checkmate both fail to fully comprehend is that this new Kobra helmed by Jason Burr is not the Kobra of old. And the game they are playing is no longer chess. The Checkmate aircraft isn't a jail cell - it's Peraskis's get-away vehicle. Sleeper agents posing as Checkmate personnel aboard the craft activate, hijacking the plane and landing it a short time later in Metropolis. There, security footage would later show, Persakis and the others exited the Metropolis airfield completely un-molested.

For Michael Holt the problem is obviously two-fold. The Checkmate organization has been severely compromised and now one of the most deadly Kobra agents in the world is wandering free in Metropolis - home to any number of potentially hazardous research facilities. Terrific and Power Girl decide to start their search for Ariadne at S.T.A.R. labs where the researchers are currently underway with a project involving the creation of what's known as a strangelet. Though their safeguards are in place to protect the powerful particle from impacting normal matter, the possibilities for global destruction are quite evident.

Looking through S.T.A.R. labs employee records, Michael finds a man by the name of Tyler Kemp. In his fifties now, Kemp was a member of the Kobra agency in his youth and Holt fears that he may have ties to the cult. Finding explosives on his person, the JSA attempt to interrogate Kemp but when he is brought into a S.T.A.R. labs conference room for questioning, Kobra uses a potent blood-magic spell to cause venomous snakes to burst forth from Kemp's body, killing him instantly. But the blood magic spectacle is only the tip of the iceberg. Suddenly the lights cut out and a great number of other Kobra sleeper agents activate and take to the halls. Mr. Terrific, Green Lantern and Power Girl are able to round up the blood thirsty mob before they are able to do any harm but once again it appears that the JSA has gone to great lengths to win what is only the battle while Kobra remains fixed on the war.

At that very moment, explosions rock the streets of Metropolis. Gigantic fire balls burst forth from the the Jerwa Street MCU, the hospital and even the offices Metropolis branch of the FBI! Mr. Terrific's T-Spheres ring out incessantly with a flood of different distress calls across the city. But regardless of where they go, the damage is already done. Across town at the LexCorp offices, Ariadne is standing downloading information from a computer terminal amidst a bloody warzone. In addition to the transient A.I. information they had obtained earlier, Kobra has just acquired all of LexCorp's documents pertaining to the dangerous Everyman Project.
