PLOT:
With Batman missing in action, Tim decides to call in Stephanie for help patrolling the streets of Gotham and to get her advice on the situation. After she arrives however he begins to realize that he is perhaps not as at peace with her abrupt return as he thought he was.

Regardless, Tim shows Steph Bruce's black case book that he took from the Batcave which outlines all of Batman's earlier more bizarre cases. Worried about not only Batman's safety but his sanity as well, Tim decides that he needs to find some way to corroborate these phantasmagoric accounts with someone else's records from that time. After deciding that Gordon may not be the most objective party in this situation, Robin turns to Sgt. Harper and asks her to look over Batman's black case book (Bruce's personal identifying remarks redacted of course) and attempt to match them up with any Commissioner Gordon's files.

Stephanie confronts Tim with her disapproval of his actions but he insists that he has thought all of this through. Tim recalls the last time he was without Bruce and the hard lessons he learned then.

Following Infinite Crisis, Bruce went on a journey to cleanse his soul of the demons which had plagued him and return to his roots as Batman. Bruce had spent 49 days closed off in a cave in Nanda Parbat as part of a re-birthing ceremony. During that time, Tim and Dick would find themselves forced into working with criminals such as a drug dealer or an Arabic energy plant tycoon with ties to Intergang all in an effort to take down much larger criminals. Sometimes, Tim surmises, one must deal with the lesser of two evils in the pursuit of the greater good.

As such, Tim turns to none other than the Penguin himself and offers the portly business man an offer he cannot refuse. In exchange for a large sum of cash, Penguin will locate Batman by morning.

After making his deal with the devil, Stephanie asks Tim what he intends on doing once he finds Batman. It is at this time that Tim begins to come to terms with the distinct possibility that the Batman he finds may not be a mentally stable one. Robin decides that should Batman no longer be himself once he's found - Tim will do what he must - Robin will take Batman down!
