PLOT:
Planning for every inevitable threat, Batman has developed several virtual reality simulations in which to test his mettle against a varying range of potential threats. Having just installed a new upgrade to the computer's A.I. system, Batman begins a new simulation taking place in a stark and cold Gotham City.

In this dystopian not-so-distant-future, Gorilla Grodd is Big Brother. Having evolved further than ever expected, his telepathy makes him capable of ruling over and controlling the minds of the entire world. He scans the mindscapes of all he surveys, looking for any dissenting thought or voice and immediately has them seized by his storm trooper squads. With the Justice League dead, and with Grodd's synthetic Kryptonite coating the atmosphere and forcing Superman to evacuate Earth, Batman is the lone hold-out.

His years of training and meditation allowing him to shield his mind from Grodd's probes, Batman has set up a base camp in the sewers beneath Gotham. His only surviving companion is Alfred, whose own years of discretionary servitude allow him the ability to hide his secrets from Grodd as well. He spends his time working in his underground lab, trying to concoct a cure for the sky's Kryptonian green hue and rescuing anyone unfortunate enough to be found disloyal to the Great Grodd. A majority of the time, these stray thoughts come from children, too young to have been fully broken to Grodd's will. Simply wondering what life would be like without their gorilla overlord. Stray harmless thoughts which ultimately cost them their lives. Even if Batman is able to save them momentarily, Grodd always catches them in the end.

But even Batman's mental shield drops for a moment when his companion Alfred succumbs to a heart attack, dying in his arms. Within moments, Grodd's battalions are already onto him, capturing him and taking him to Metropolis for his public execution at the hands of Grodd. Luckily, Superman swoops down from the heavens, arriving at the coliseum just in time to save Batman. It appears Batman's latest formula has worked, curing Clark of his weakness to the synthetic Kryptonite. Inspired by the returning Man of Steel, the crowd is snapped from their mental shackles and overthrow Grodd's security while the two heroes take down the beast himself. In the end, as Superman prepares to escort Grodd safely off-planet, the two heroes shake hands. The day is saved and the simulation ends.
