i couldn't help myself. is there anyone in the batman fan community that DOESN'T like his voice? cuz i personally love it. maybe even more so than kevin conroy. when batman interrogated sal maroni and joker, it was so crazy. his voice was amazing in those 2 scenes.
"WHERE ARE THEY?!!"
i thought that was so cool. haha.
but yeah, it's actually a surprise to me that the voice is even considered a flaw in the movie. it's merely a preference, not a flaw.

I loved Bale's voice as BATMAN, for one thing it was much more believable than all the other actors in the live action that have portrayed The Caped Crusader .
1. Adam West - The Campy era , He didn't really change his voice when he was Batman . He sounded just like Bruce Wayne .
2. MICHAEL KEATON - The Dark Beginning , He whispered when he doned the cape & cowl . And as Bruce Wayne he voice was low key.
3. Val Kilmer - Forever bound in Darkness , His voice was a little to much Supermanish at times as Batman . His voice as Bruce Wayne was spot on .
4. Looney Clooney - Return Of the Campy era, He didn't change his voice for the role . nuff said ...
Christian Bale was the first actor portraying The Dark Knight in motion picture that actually changed his voice . The only other actor to do this is the great Kevin Conroy from Batman : The animated series . Hailed by bat-fans as the definitive voice of Batman . He had two voice completely separated voices for BATMAN , Bruce Wayne . Which worked perfectly in keeping people from discovering that Batman's secret Identity .
Getting back to Bale . Some of my friends asked me why doesn't Bale's Bruce Wayne asked Morgan Freeman character Lucius Fox to create a prototype voice changer gadget from Wayne Enterprise R.N.D. - (Research & Development) to place within The cowl . (Similar to Darth Vader) . IMO I explained my reasons
1. It would be a real cop out that an actor couldn't change his voice. - That how I feel about Justin Hartley on Smallville as Green Arrow using a voice changer .
2. Since Batman battles criminals with the use of Super powers . He get's injured a lot . his suit was designed to protect his body from major damage . however at times even his armor get damaged and his cowl as well . What would he do if his Voice changer got damaged in battle ? His secret would be found out . because someone would recognize his voice .
3. I loved the growling/deep dark voice . It's shows both the anger he still feels from his parents murder & it serves a purpose It shows how far one man will go to be Intimadating. It's so animalistic and aggressive. Which is just what BATMAN is . He's a creature of The Night, A silent guardian, a watchful protector... A DARK KNIGHT...

The voice is fine. The guy can't walk around talking like Bruce Wayne it wouldn't be to hard to place one of the most famous playboys voice.

i like that batman doesn't even talk, he just growls. hahaha. a fitting voice for the character if you ask me.
the batman portrayed in nolan's universe is very aggressive and mean. it wouldn't be right for him to have a calm super hero voice like val kilmer, or just a quiet whisper like keaton. i'm glad bale does his growl. the interrogations wouldn't be as fun to watch without it.

I thought it worked fine, but Kevin Conroy is still the definitive Batman voice for me. Conroy was able to make both Bruce's and Batman's voices sound natural, like both were the "real" voice.

but when i think batman, i hear bale's voice now. i liked batman begins and dark knight too much.
now everyone needs to brace themselves for brave and the bold's rex kwon do batman. hahaha. i actually think he'll do well - for a comedic batman anyway.

I went to a preview of the movie over here in Scotland and on the way home from the cinema one question I was asked - as my cousins aren't huge Batman fans, though they all loved Batman Begins - was the voice. I had a hard time convincing my cousin Kirsty that it makes perfect sense. |

Were they asking about the Batman voice or the Joker voice? Cause if they loved Begins you'd think they'd have already come to accept the Batman voice.

I think a reason why Batman's voice sounded "weird" was because he was tired. It only sounded off when he used the grappling gun on the Joker and exerted all his energy to pull him up. He was exhausted and had to take deep breaths in between sentences. Granted the scenes were different takes but to make it sound consistent, he had to sound tired.
It also happened right after he fell off the platform next to Two-Face. When he got up, he was also out of breath.

You'd think that, wouldn't you? We even watched BB the night before the preview showing at her insistence, and she never mentioned it then. Nobody mentioned The Joker's voice at all. She even acknowledged that if she hadn't known beforehand that it was Heath Ledger, she'd never have known, as did a few work colleagues of mine. |

that's just how amazing heath's performance was. it wasn't heath, it was joker.
and as far as the voice goes, i think it's just preference. i actually thought it still sounded cool when out of breath.

Bale's Batman voice is the best. I believe that with Bale being welsh, it's probably difficult to keep that Batman voice. |

he actually slipped his accent a bit at the end of the movie when he says "he chose you because you were the best of us." i thought it sounded cool though.
"best of us" was slightly welsh accent-ized.

I'll be honest. Bale's Batman voice put me off at first. I thought he sounded ridiculous. I still don't like it. I prefered Keaton's whisper though I still like Bale better. I thought it sounded more mysterious which is right for the character. Bale tones down the gutteral stuff enough so it's not unbearable. Considering how superior Nolan's films are to the others, it's a necessary evil. It's something I can live with since the movies are so awesome. It's nothing so bad it could bring the movie down. That's how good the movies are, I guess. People have to quibble because anything major is hard to find.
Word.
