This funny little fact just dawned on me the other day:
1939: Bob Kane creates Batman, a very dark and brooding character. The stories that follow are very gothic and even somewhat scary.
1989: Tim Burton directs BATMAN, a very dark and brooding film. The sequel that followed was very gothic and even somewhat scary.
1939: DC Comics were starting to realize that Batman needed to lighten up -and fast. They introduce Robin and the stories become lighter.
1995: Warner Bros. were starting to realize that Batman needed to lighten up -and fast. They introduce the Robin character into Batman FOREVER and the film became lighter.
1966: The Batman stories were so light by now that a highly campy and somewhat stupid (IMHO) TV series was released.
1998: The Batman franchise was so much lighter now that a highly campy and somewhat stupid film 'Batman & Robin' was released.
LATE 1970s: Denny O' Neil slowly brings Batman back to his original darkness.
LATE 1990s: Paul Dini and co. slowly bring Batman back to his original darkness with TNBA and Batman Beyond.
1986: Frank Miller brutally kills the camped crusader, replacing him with the Dark Knight. DC finally realize what direction they should be taking this character in.
2005: Christopher Nolan brutallly kills the camped crusader, replacing him with the Dark Knight. WB finally realize what direction they should be taking this character in.
Funny huh? |

Yeah, the Burton/Schumucker series reflected the comics from each era. Glad to see I am not the only one who had this intuition. |

I thought of the movies differently.
1989 - Movie based on Batman in 1939 who killed and used lethal tactics
1992 - BR based on 1940's film noir that usually appeared in a couple of old comics but in elseworlds
1995 - BF based on the '50s comics since both included sci-fi
1997 - B&R based on the campy show that took Batman by storm
2005 - BB based from the '70s era that brought Batman out of campy but also used elements from '80s and '90s comic works as well
You don't get it, boy... this isn't a mudhole... it's an operating table.
(crack!)
And I'm the surgeon.

Yeah, although those years aren't 100% accurate, that is true. It's funny, because in this Modern Era we've been in or how long, I'm sure if WB knew better they would've done Batman the way he is right now all the way through the '90s, and things wouldn't have been messed around so much in attempt to better sell Batman.
