Tim Burton (made 1st Batman movie, BATMAN) said something that is really dumb to say considering his movie was named BATMAN.
"I always hated those titles like Batman Forever. That sounds like a tattoo that somebody would get when they're on drugs or something. Or something some kid would write in the yearbook to somebody else. I have high problems with some of those titles."
— Tim Burton on the title of Batman Forever
*quote from Wikipedia
And he named his first movie "BATMAN"
"Things are always going to get worst before they get better."

His movie was Batman. It was a perfectly fine title considering it was a long-awaited reboot of the character in film. Saying that's a stupid title is like saying Spider-Man, X-Men, DareDevil, and all the other countless eponymous title are stupid. Batman Forever is different. It's not a phrase of action like having "Returns" or "Begins." So I can see what Burton means by criticizing it. He's saying the title is like a foolish person shouting "Batman rules!"

Do you guyse really think Batman is a stupid title? That is the name of the character and the title of the comic it's based on. Plus there was no way back in 1989 WB would take the risk of seperating the movie from the franchise by naming it something like "The Dark Knight". The only title that movie ever had a chance of having was "Batman".
And Batman Returns is a damn cool title for a sequal, not just becuase it references DKR, but because it just sounds cool.
But Batman Forever just sounds like something you'd shout at a Batman movie while you're drunk.

Agreed.
I like the names for Burton's movies. They are actually MUCH better than the typical names of the era: Batman, Batman 2, Batman 3, etc.

I always it sounded like a tattoo myself.

Still Batman Returns has Batman in it. Not every movie has to have the main characters name in the title. I like The Dark Knight because it is original and it still-- wait I mean Batman is just beat by Batman Forever because somebody took time to think of it.

This has to be one of the most ridiculous threads that I've seen. There's got to be better things to write about. In 1989, Tim Burton's "Batman" was like the coming of Christ to life-long Bat-fans who had spent their childhood trying to explain away the campy tv series to mocking adults. We finally had a mature film version of the Dark Knight that really was dark and brooding with moderninized bat-suits and vehicles and a truly maniacal Joker that finally put Cesar Romero behind us. It was the first time since "Superman" eleven years earlier that I went to see a movie three times. For those of us who are old enough to have seen the film in theaters and enjoyed a marketing and merchandising campaign like the one we fans are enjoying today for TDK, it was Bat-Heaven. Now 20 years later, I have been reading about how Burton's vision was flawed because he didn't care about the character's history in comics, which is why he made the Joker the killer of Wayne's parents and killed him off in the film's end. We all recognized this 20 years ago, but who cared? It was that or reruns of Adam West and Romero. No one was complaining. And here at this beloved site, 20 years later, people want to debate whether the film's title was good enough. So maybe many years from now, some of you will be defending "Batman Begins" to a young audience eager to see a new film called "Batman: Year 2030". |

I think th epoint of the thread isn't to talk bad about BATMAN, but the fact that Burton said names like BATMAN FOREVER was dumb.

Yea, its funny when two people have no idea what is really going on with Batman and they debate over it. Well kind of with the names
