there arn't anymore technicolor batmen. the lastest one is the line's first batman variant, and it looks pretty damn swank, and could easily fit in the comics. there are also more villains, but the case ratio problems mean most people may not find them. however, with the license extension, i think mattel will get their act together to overcome that hurdle.
This is true enough for the DCSH line, but I was still thinking of The Batman and other lines that preceded this. It was the Batman variants in the comic style line that hung on the pegs and caused Mattel to send the last three waves of figures overseas a couple years ago.
How many black “S” Superman figures did you see on the pegs in your area. I’ve seen plenty. The same was true for the black “S” Supergirl, although there were not as many of her on the pegs.
You’re right this new Knight Shadow Batman is sweet and one of the best variants I’ve ever seen.

Well I don’t know about the rest of the country, but these came and went down here in a matter of a few days. I lucked out and got almost all of them at one shot at a TRU. The second TRU I went to that day had only Knight Shadow Batman left. No other stores had them.
That was 3 weeks ago when I got them and since that day not only has TRU not had any more, neither has Wal-Mart or Target. Even eBay seems light on these figures. I counted a dozen, mostly Knight Shadow Batman and a Bane and a Two Face. That makes me question the distribution of these figures. I wonder what happened.

Superman is still warming the pegs around here, we didn't even get the "blip" you had.

Well.. we went to a Super Target and a Huge WAlmart last weekend.. both had Series 1 & 2 DCSH... that was it.. Now if it was just Wal-Mart, or just Target, I'd say that their warehouses found them in the back and shipped out.. but to seperate places?
Of course we have the same figures here.. I'll be suprised if they don't go on Clarance soon..

Superman was warming the pegs at my Wal-mart for so long that they decided to take the whole series of the pegs

Both Target and Wal-Mart have the Superman waves on the pegs. They’ve had these before and restocked them apparently. All except Black “S” Supergirl and Black Suit Superman are out there.
It’s not just DCSH either, The Batman and JLU are the same way. Wild Wing Robin and Spin Blade Batman were at a Target 2 or 3 weeks ago. I passed on them because I thought I already had them. I hit TRU, Targets and Wal-Mart’s and nothing, no The Batman figures at all. A Super Wal-Mart had them today, but only ONE each.
Then there is JLU. The Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman 3 Pack is EVERYWHERE. The other three 3 Packs are not on the pegs at all. I have the one each of the Aquaman, Stargirl, Parasite and Amazo, Nemesis, Lightray 3 Packs, the only ones I’ve seen. The Green Arrow, Hawk, Volcana 3 Pack has not been seen at all.
So is it Mattel or is it the Retailers? Spider-man, Fantastic Four and Transformers have dominated the toy aisle for the last couple months. Is that why Batman and DC has lagged behind?

My guess is a combination of the two.
I know from TF collecting that the retailer can be a problem. One local Wal-Mart missed the street date for the Transformers movie merchandise, while another one *still* has some Cybertron-series toys on the shelves.
On the manufacturer side: of all the complaints fans have had about what Hasbro does, availability in stores is seldom one of them (there have been a couple of exceptions). They really try to get their products to as many buyers as possible, while Mattel seems to have semi-regular issues with people being able to find their toys. At least, regular enough that it has become a running gag in the fan community.

That’s true enough about Hasbro. When they had the Batman/Superman licenses you could always find product on the pegs. Mattel on the other hand has always been hit or miss. Has anybody seen Cyborg Superman (in either size) on the shelves? No, me either.
I never saw any of the The Batman Deluxe Series 4 figures, BATMAN To BATBOT, Fire Armor BATMAN and Power Prop BATMAN on the pegs down here either. I’ve seen everything else, what happened to those figures?
Perhaps with this new DC Section idea Mattel has things will be better, but remember the saying about old dogs… Mattel needs to learn some new tricks soon.
