Question about Batman |

Ok, I have not read the comics, so don't bash me. I am not sure about this question. But, in the original Batman movie with Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson as the Joker, I understood that Joker killed Bruce's parents.
In Batman Begins, it's another thug that kills Bruce's parents.
So, which is it in the comics? I thought it was the Joker (actually before he fell into that acid pit) that killed Bruce's parents.
I was just trying to understand the story better, I've not seen any movies but Batman Begins, the original Batman movie and Batman Returns.
I just ordered Volumes 1-4 of Batman, the Animated Series.

Okay, in the comics, a thug by the name of Joe Chill. Now I'm not sure if he knows this now or not.
Begins is the closest movie to the comics we get. 'I'm sure more people will expand on this later.

No, in 1989?s Batman there were some artistic licenses taken.
In the Comic Books, Jack Napier / The Joker never killed the Waynes. In fact the Comic Books have never really identified who The Joker was before he became The Joker. In the Comics, Joe Chill, a common thug is the gunman who kills the Wayne?s, but in Tim Burton?s movie it was more dramatic to have it be Napier/Joker.
Batman Begins is the best representation of Batman?s origin so far. Although Mask Of The Phantasm does a good job too.

good thing u didnt watch batman & robin. u shud give batman forever a try cuz i personally think that ones OKAY. but if u dont like batman forever, dont even look at batman & robin.
and i think beyond clarified the whole batman's parents' killer thing.

I am actually quite a Batman fan, but my first love is Superman. I was reading that Bryan Singer, much later down the road has entertained the idea of doing a Supes and Batman movie. That'd be cool, maybe it would be World's Finest from TAS. |

Actually, Joe Chill is identified as the murderer of Bruce Wayne's parent back in the Golden Age and Silver Age (1930s-'70s), but in modern continuity, the murderer's identity is left unknown to anyone. I still sort of label them as "Joe Chill," but in actuality, they're unidentified. Doesn't anyone remember Darknight's explanation of this?

Sure he may be Chill, just like he may be Dr. Victor Fries. But at this point, he's not, so he has no identity. I like using the name "Joe Chill" to represent the killer, but as I said, he is unidentified and probably always will be in this timeline.

I wonder if, now that the Crisis has kinda changed some stuff, if we might see Chill is the killer once again.

Which is exactly what has happened. There is one panel in Infinite Crisis #7 where Alex Luthor states that the killer of Batman's parents has been captured. There are some montage shots that include newpapers identifying Joe Chill as the killer. So basically, that aspect has gone back to pre-Zero Hour continuity.
As a pseudo-interesting side note. A few months ago on Chuck Dixon's website there was a discussion about this reversal. Chuck said that he always liked Bruce not knowing who killed his parents. Not knowing is a motivating factor to find the ones that opress others to save them from the pain that he feels in not knowing who killed his parents. He equated it to Adrian Monk, from the excellent TV show Monk, not knowing who killed his wife Trudy. When Monk knows who killed Trudy he can stop doing what he does. He saw it as working the same for Batman. I really wish that they had a better message board over there. I did a search, but I don't think that it keeps threads for that long.
