I've read the book and liked it. But why didn't everyone else didn't? Its been confusing me for a while, but I've been wondering since.

BTW, the answers will be used in wikipedia's page on DK2 so I can at least explain to others who go there the reason.

You don't get it, boy... this isn't a mudhole... it's an operating table.

The original had quite a bit of political commentary. The new one did as well, but it just seemed full of commentary. And did we need a (seemingly) 20 page SUperman/Wonder Woman sex scene? The old one had a good story of a hero's return and fall, of almost greek mythology proportions, but the new one just seemed like a bunch of stuff stuck together.

Also, just too much hype. This is the sequel to one of the most popular Bat-stories, but just didn't have that same feeling of Batman.

DK2 looked more like a JLA story to me rather than a Batman story.

I really liked it. I'm rather tired now, but I'll come back in a day or two when I'm gonna be online longer and explain exactly why I thought it was so good. (It's a rather long explanation wink )

Okay, it's been about a year since I last read the story, so I'm a bit hazy on exact details, but I clearly recall the reasons I liked the story. Here goes...

It's a satire. Really. It's carried out on a grand scale, and there are jabs at superhero comics and their unique attirbutes and traditions on pretty much every page. It wasn't until my second reading that I really started to pick up on this. Sure, there are plot developments I didn't like too much-- mainly, Dick Grayson as a villain-- but you know what? They work within the context of the story, really. And besides, even if you hate it, it has no effect on the "real" Batman, as this is an alternate future story. Leaving the satire stuff aside, this is merely Frank's continuation of his version of Batman's life, and it works for what it is.
And with the art and the sumptuous colors, the book is just GORGEOUS.
But, I understand why so many people dislike it. It's definitely a lot more "out there" than DKR was. Everybody was expecting and wanting more of what we had in DKR, but that's not what Frank was interested in doing. He wanted to take it in a new direction, delivering a grand satire of the superhero genre at the same time. He succeeded, but he also sorely disappointed a lot of people, who had expectations and desires for the story that were vastly different.
Anyway, that's just the basic gist of the whole thing. I've written very long posts before on other sites detailing why I wound up liking the story despite my own misgivings, so I don't want to retread all of that here. You get the general idea, though.

And there's nothing wrong with being 13, you like what you like, whatever your age is. I'd say DK2 really is aimed at adults more than teens, so you may like it more if you pick it up again in the future. I don't think I would have liked it much at 13, either.

(Marginally- related rant: My major comics-related memory of being 13 is the time I was duped into buying a stack of Rob Liefeld comics because he was turning into "the next big thing." Once I tried to read them and got a good look at the art, I realized I didn't want to be in the same house with them, even if they were valuable. [But they weren't valuable, as it turns out. They're actually worth less than toilet paper!])
