OK,

I am wondering what sports team names HAVE been used in the Batman continuities for Gotham teams. I have only found a few:

Baseball: Knights (Common)
Football: Knights (Common)
Basketball: Gators (The Batman)

others?

Is there any common hockey team name regularly found in the various Batman formats?
(My proposal would be the Gotham Gladiators- which has a nice ring to it, and approprite for hockey)

Also, what are the stadiums/arenas/fields in Gotham (and relevant continuity)?
Knights Dome (main, sometimes drawn based on the Georgia Dome)- Football (Baseball?)
Gotham Square Gardens (a dome in BTAS used for Football in a Scarecrow episode)

Mods, if this is the wrong subforum for this, please move to right one. Just let me know where it is.)

I looked on Wikipedia, just out of curiousity . . .
They have:
baseball:
-Gotham City Eagles - major league team, Batman
-Gotham Goliaths - major league team, Batman; the villain Two-Face once robbed the box office during the second inning of the second game of a doubleheader between the Goliaths and the Minnesota Twins
Basketball:
-Gotham Gators - cartoon The Batman
-Gotham Guardsmen - Batman
Football:
-Gotham Knights (formerly the Gotham Giants) - Batman (the term "Gotham Knights" also refers to the local vigilanties: Batman, Robin, Batgirl, Nightwing and The Creeper)
-Gotham Wildcats (formerly Goliaths) - The Daily Planet Guide to Gotham City

I do remember that Gotham Knights WAS used also as a baseball team.
(Can't put fingers on the issue/graphic novel though)

I also found:
http://cobweb.sca...tham.html

Newtown/Otisburg/The Scituate
These three communities are situated along the northern edge of the North Island. Newtown and Otisburg are largely residential (although the Glendale Institute of Technology is in Newtown), and the Scituate is home to nearly all of the major sporting arenas in Gotham City. Gotham Square Gardens is home to the Gotham Blades (AHL hockey), the Gotham Guardsmen (NBA), and the Gotham Amazons (WNBA). Sommerset Stadium is the home of the Gotham Wildcats (NFL - known as the Gotham Goliaths until 1990), and the Gotham Monarchs (NL Baseball). The Gotham Knights (AL baseball) are playing in Bristol Stadium until the new Knights Dome is completed.

Here is a collection of snippits I collected from various things saved onto computer, I don't remember the sources though (possibly plagurized from some members here???):

Mayfair's Atlas of the DC Universe (1990) by DC staffer Paul Kupperberg itemised the various major-league sports teams and their divisions for the fictional U.S. cities in the DC universe. While Atlas is not "official", many of the teams listed here have appeared in DC stories, thus providing a corroboration of sorts. Take them for whatever you think they're worth:

Major League Baseball--National League
Gotham Griffins
Metropolis Meteors
Midway City Chiefs
Star City Rockets

Major League Baseball--American League
Central City Stars
Coast City Angels
Gotham Knights
Metropolis Monarchs

Major League Football--National Conference
Gotham Wildcats
Metropolis Meteors
Midway City Cardinals
Star City Stags

Major League Football--American Conference
Central City Cougars
Coast City Sharks
Gotham Knights
Metropolis Metros (for which pre-Crisis WGBS staffer Steve Lombard had once played quarterback)

Major League Basketball
Coast City Clippers
Dos Rios Dudes
Gotham Guardsmen
Keystone Kings
Metropolis Generals
Star City Lights

Major League Hockey
Gotham Blades
Hub City Slashers
Metropolis Mammoths
Midway Wolverines
Bludhaven Bullies

Bludhaven's football team is the Brawlers. Chief Redhorn used to go to their games. Nightwing has also mentioned Bludhaven's hockey team Bludhaven Bullies but I don't remember their name.

Astro City's baseball team is the All-Stars.

I've seen Gotham Knights used for more than one sport. That would indicate to me that most of the Gotham teams have been around for awhile, because it used to be common to do that (New York had football and baseball Giants; St. Louis had football and baseball Cardinals; Pittsburgh had baseball and hockey Pirates; Philadelphia has had Eagles in football and hockey, although I don't think it was at the same time).

For example, the Metropolis Meteors have sometimes been a football team, sometimes a baseball team. But on other occasions, the Metropolis football team has been called the Metros, and the baseball team the Monarchs. Since a city the size of Metropolis could conceivably have two franchises for each sport, it's not necessarily contradictory. But it does mean that I can't say for sure.

Metropolis also has the Generals (basketball) and the Mammoths (hockey). The most recent Superman Archives had a story that took place at a baseball game, and that may be the earliest reference to a Metropolis team. (I don't remember the name of the team; I'll look it up when I get home.)

As to Gotham, generally I've heard the Giants referred to as the baseball team. I think Gotham Knights was mentioned on the animated show as the football team, and possibly in the comics as well.

(End quotes)

This is presented as info only, NOT to be authoritative, just as what I've located.

Nice research there, MacWage. I never really thought about the DCU sports teams, but as soon as I started reading your first post I was reminded of the few times I had heard the various names over the years.

The last part is a collection of Copy and pastes from in-line stuff. The "I" was the ORIGINAL author (s), not me. I only wish I remembered where I got them. I had actually FORGOT it was saved and buried DEEP in my batman stuff. I only wish I had credited the original author. It was saved for my own info-> NOT SOURCE NOTED (unfortunately).

I only wish I could have claiimed that research. I did cross refernce it at the time, so I have trust that the names were used in the comics.

My project:
Designing and building ballparks, stadiums, and arenas. I am also creating and recreating team identities for their occupants .(truncated for O-Gauge/Lionel layouts)
I am doing the Gotham baseball as a blend of The Natural (New York Knights), a stadium concept I came up with 13 years ago (Grand Cental Stadum- built over a train station, now tagged on various parts also as Gotham Central Stadium and Knights Field- personal reference/note to legislative inconcistancy and interferance in sports venue naming), and the Batman version.

My OTHER projects are recreations of:
-Ponce de Leon Park, Atlanta (built as if it had been updated/renovated for Major Leagues)
-The Omni, Atlanta (Hockey, basketball and Arena Football League)
-Death Valley, Clemson (SC)-Football stadium

New Designs:
-Wages Field (for father's train latout)
-Mudd Bowl (Home of Warthogs-football- and MudCats-soccor)
-Tartan Glen (Home of Scots, baseball team-> large plaid wall)
-Gotham Colosseum (Gladiators-hockey and Jacks-basketball- not fan of comic named I've seen)
-more in my head

According to an article on the new viral site, TheGothamTimes.com, The offical name of Gotham's team in the movies is the Gotham Goliaths, and the stadium is named as Gotham Stadium.

That would be here:
http://www.thegot...page4.htm

Article: "City Fights to keep Gotham Goliaths from Leaving."

Goliaths was a name used for Gotham football teams over the years, but not as much recently (when the "Knights" became the most common one seen in comics).
Interesting site that mentions several team names:
http://en.wikiped...rts_teams

Gotham-
Baseball:
-Gotham City Eagles - major league team, Batman
-Gotham Goliaths - major league team, Batman; the villain Two-Face once robbed the box office during the second inning of the second game of a doubleheader between the Goliaths and the Minnesota Twins
-Gotham Knights - major league team, Batman (in some stories/continuities)

Basketball:
-Gotham Gators - cartoon The Batman
-Gotham Guardsmen - Batman

Hockey:
-Gotham Blades - Batman

Anyone know where the Gotham Blades reference originally came from?
There IS an "old" minor league team known as the Kansas City Blades.

After more searching:
It is derived from an English version of a Swedish adaptation to the Indian word meaning "Long Lake." The Gotham Municipal Stadium is the home of the Wildcats, American Football team of Gotham. The Gotham Blades, a minor hockey team, playing in the Herod Arena. " Waynefield, home of the Baseball team of Gotham Knights, had recently installed its lights, allowing the first night game in their history. The Dean Stadium was stayed empty since the Gotham Rampage, a team very poor Football d collapsed. However, the Gotham Gorilla, the Futsal league, which recently announced plan to play in the Dean Stadium

# Wayne enterprises
Bruce Wayne is the president of Wayne Enterprises. It is an internationally traded Fortune 500 company with its headquarters in Gotham. Founded by the Wayne family years ago, Bruce leads with the expert advice of Lucius Fox as Chief Executive Officer. Its many subsidiaries include WayneTech (and its own subsidiaries, Wayne BioTech and Wayne Foods), Wayne Shipping, Wayne Steel (parent corporation of Wayne Shipbuilding, also known as Wayne Yards, which has built much of the US Navy's armada), Wayne Aerospace (makers of the popular Slipstream jet), Wayne Chemical (which owns Wayne Pharmaceuticals, Wayne Oil, Wayne Botanical and a small percentage of Tyler Chemicals), Wayne Industries (which owns Wayne Mining, and through that subsidiary several diamond and gold mines in Africa), Wayne Medical (a corporation that does medical research on both AIDS and cancer, but primarily the driving force in healthcare in Gotham City), Wayne Electronics (makers of this years hottest new game console, the WayneStation 3), and Wayne Entertainment (which bought out Scott Telecommunications and owns the Gotham Knights and the Metropolis Monarchs, baseball teams, the Gotham Wildcats, football, the Gotham Guardsmen, basketball, the Gotham Blades, hockey, and the popular Metropolis newspaper, the Daily Planet - often considered one of the best newspapers in the country). With assets in the billions, Wayne Enterprises is one of the most powerful umbrella corporations in the world. Access to the brilliant and innovative minds that Wayne Industries hires as a matter of course, too, offers Batman much insight into almost any industry being attacked by his enemies.

Does anyone have/know where to look for stories and so forth that would have images of the Gotham Blades (the Gotham hockey team/club) actually WITHIN comics? In particular, I am looking for logos (if any).

I have gotten a hockey jersey on Ebay (the ONLY one that bid on it) and am thinking of taking the patch off and putting it on the back of another jersey.
I was thinking I would make it a "Gotham Blades" jersey.
It is labeled as a Philips Arena one and the jersey itself is a replica mid-1970s Penguins one (white with light blue and black).
http://cgi.ebay.c...IT&ih=012

I am also building a model of an arena for my electric train layout and am planning several variations of "teams" for the same painted set of 2 painted teams (one in white and red and the other in black/navy and light blue). I WILL be making one variation (logo on the interchangeable ice surface and scoreboards) for the Gotham Blades.

Are there any long-time Batman fans that are also "hockey nuts" that may be able to give me direction as to WHERE to look for stories on the Blades?
I have created a logo concept, but would prefer an accurate one (to the comics) than one I created.

I'm locking the other thread, we don't need multiple threads about the teams.. thanks!
