Comics Subscription: Pros & Cons? |

I think this was brought up a few years ago. I'm considering getting a mail subscription to a few DC titles but would like to know about the pros and cons of mail subscriptions. I haven't bought a new comic book in about two years. I started slipping out of the loop during the relentless 52 series, and I was just getting too many titles. Eventually the comic shop owner stopped holding issues for me since I only wanted two or so titles.
Aside from this, my comic shop is about 35-40 miles away, and the owner simply doesn't appreciate his customers. But I'm dying to get back into the current Batman stories, like the return of Bruce Wayne and the Batman Beyond mini-series, and I'd like to get a long-term subscription to Batman and Detective.
I'm concerned with the comic book condition with mail. I'm okay with a slightly rough spine, etc.; it doesn't need to arrive mint. I know mail won't allow me to get variant covers, but if I want 'em bad enough I'll go looking. I've also read that subscriptions are cheaper than buying individual issues.
I'm patient and plan on getting some stories in trade paperback when they come out, but I'm afraid of stumbling upon spoilers (our comic news updates don't help).
So do any of you have subscriptions?

I personally don't, but i'm also interested in getting a subscription so great thread! I've actually been wondering how you even sign up for one? I wish DC would support http://graphics.ly because that is the best way to read comics i've seen if you not collecting. I right now am re-reading Batman R.I.P then Battle for the Cowl, then catch up on batman and robin ( i have the first two issues) so I can read the return of the Bruce Wayne series.

Honestly your best place to look is DCBService.com
Five dollar for once a month shipping. You order your titles three months in advance when the new Previews catalog comes out and they ship your exact order to your house at the end of the shipment month. Plus they offer a discount of at least 35% if not more. Some new titles ship for only 99 cents or less.
They have other options for weekly or bi-weekly shipping but I just go with once a month and their customer service is top notch.
They also run a discount TPB store called InStockTrades.com with 35% or more discount on hardcovers and trades. Definitely worth looking into for the frugal shopper with no local access to a brick & mortar store. Good luck Caleson!

Thanks very much, cdemink! I had no idea you could get issues as cheap as 99 cents via subscription, and that IST site has great discounts. I'll very likely utilize both of them and perhaps, in the meantime, buy some issues from a local shop while I wait for the subscription to kick in.

NP! Yeah, it's pretty great. Plus with DCBS you can order things other than just comics. Anything in the Previews catalog can pretty much be ordered through their site. All through an easy to use Excel spreadsheet that you upload to their site.
I love it! Glad I found a new convert!
