In 1991, a rod/custom car show was held at the (then) Knickerbocker Arena in Albany, NY. Special guests of honor were a pair of Batmobiles, one from the 1989 movie and the #2 car built by Barris Kustoms back in the '60s. Here are a few shots I took of the '66:

Cool shots; but I'm more of a 89 fan, I personaly think there shouldn't be Pink on the Batmobile, But it does bring me back.

Thanks! Heh, make sure you never watch Legends of the Superheroes, then. Most people see that as the low point in her history: covered in black velvet, Euro mesh wheels, and red plastic-looking doodads everywhere. Pretty much what you would expect from the time period that brought us Disco Smile

Actually it?s Cherise which is a red that has flourecent qualities. It mostly photographs red, but at times under flash photography it could show was yellow, orange or in the above photos sort of pink.

Albany seems like a fitting place for the Batmobile! I have memories of going there in the 1960s to visit my grandmother, and I always loved how it looked back then. And I also remember the arena when it was named the Knickerbocker Arena.

I have been in 1966 Batmobiles, and hope to see a 1989 version soon.

Thanks for sharing. Aside from the vehicle itself, I like that Batcave illustration background. Did the '89 model have any sort of neat background?

The show was not too long after the infamous "bat fuzz" period (where the car was literally flocked with fuzzy material), and the stripes were lighter than they were during its first paint job but FlaBat's right - the final result it all depends on the lighting. The "pink" in this case is a combination of the cheap camera I was using at the time and the poor lighting inside the arena.

Catfan, not much has changed. It still has both 1800s and modern architecture, the towers, the Egg, and the wonky set of loops that is 787. Definitely a bit of a "Gotham City" vibe to it (I think it's one of the five oldest cities in the US). It's especially nice this time of year, as they do the "Lights in the Park" through January.

I saw one of the Barris Batmobiles with the Bat-Fuzz back at a World Of Wheels in Miami in the 80's. I wondered why it had that on there, it looked horrible. I found out years later it was due to cracks in the fiberglass, they used that to hide them. I'm not sure which one of the 4 Barris cars it was, but only the #1 is steel, the others are all fiberglass.

I have pictures, but I can't find them. When/If I do I'll post them.

Sadly, it was all of them...even the #1 got the "fuzz" treatment. I'd actually like to build a model of one of these, if only because it's so weird. Here's a pic of the #1 from that time (note all the extra do-dads that had been stuck to it at the time:

It was actually used on-screen in the equally unfortunate Legends of the Superheroes.
