There have been several articles recently (including here and here) about an "original 60's Batmobile [going] up for sale in the UK." Simply put, it's not an original. The #1 was the only car used during the series (with one minor "background shot" exception), and is still the property of Barris himself in California. The other three replicas that Barris produced are also still residing in the US, in the hands of private collectors: #2 is in Virginia, #3 is in Washington, and #4 is in California. Like the one that was sold at Kruse a few years ago, this is a reproduction car.

That does not surprise me.
And people are better off with a reproduction 1966 Batmobile, since they will be built in a much better manner than the originals. Believe me, I know!

Not surprised that one of the stories you linked in Spencer was from The Sun. It really is nothing more than a dishcloth! |

I've kind of gotten that impression from the (admittedly few) things I've seen from it in the past. Still, it hasn't stopped people from believing the story wholeheartedly.
Catfan, I agree...it's funny to see how rough the originals are. Still, I don't know as I'd really trust some of the replica builders out there, either. There are a lot of good 20-footers (from 20 feet away, they look great, but not so much up close), but if I'm shelling out that kind of cash, I want something better than that. It almost seems like if you really want a good looking 'mobile, you're best off building it yourself.

Last I checked, you could buy a turnkey replica for between $50,000 and $75,000.
