Spiderman's "Back in Black" series that's going on now. I have the initial four issues released
Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #17
Spider-Man Family #1
Amazing Spider-Man #539
Sensational Spider-Man #35
does anybody know if it's going to be a running series..or are those four issues it?
I'm trying to expand my comic horizons from just DC and Image comics...and trying to like Marvel (..uh..)
also...
can anyone tell me how good Civil War and House of M was / are? |

Not sure how long the Back In Black arc runs, but Spidey'll definitely be in the black costume for most of this year.
I haven't read Civil War yet, since I preordered the trade, I don't have it yet. I read House of M last year, and found it lacking. It was a story that had a lot of potential, but in the end, it just wasn't written very well. Worse, there were a few interesting changes made with that crossover, and Marvel failed to capitalize on them. Even though everone has been grumbling about the way Civil War ended, it seems the general concensus is that it's better than HoM was.

It is just a crossover storyline. Like Knightfall. It is going into a lot more things than I thought. I figured it was in the Spidey titles, but it is going around the Marvel U. Sounds

I am rapidly going back to a lot of Marvel stuff since Civil War, which I thought was pretty good. It is worth picking up, and I guess that they did accomplish their goal of getting more readers (with me at least) since I am picking up a few regular universe Marvel titles for the first time in nearly 10 years. It has been some pretty good stuff.
I didn't read House of M. I have heard a lot of mixed things.

Some more Marvel recommendations, if you want 'em:
Since you're interested in Spider-Man, most of the Paul Jenkins Spider-Man stories were quite good. You can find most of them dirt cheap on Amazon, if you don't mind buying used copies. A couple of 'em are out of print, but you don't have to read 'em all to enjoy 'em. The first 6 or 7 volumes of Strazynski's Amazing Spider-Man are pretty good, too. He missteps sometimes, but I've enjoyed reading the trades overall.
She-Hulk is a book that is a lot of fun, and never takes itself too seriously. Ditto for Irredeemable Ant-Man, which features probably the lousiest super-hero ever. Really, the whole series is about what a horrible excuse for a hero he is. He spends most of his time shrinking down and trying to watch women undress than he does actually fighting crime.
The Marvel Zombies books are a lot of fun, too. The zombie universe first appeared in vol. 5 of Ultimate Fantastic Four, and they're pretty chilling there. In the Marvel Zombies miniseries, though, they're played less seriously. The Marvel Zombies vs. Army of Darkness mini started this month, and the first issue was pretty fun.
Brubaker's Daredevil and Captain America are good books, too. I hear very good things about Dwayne McDuffie's run on Fantastic Four, but I haven't read it yet since I'm waiting for the trade. (McDuffie, if you don't know, was a writer for the Justice League/JLU tv series. He does good work.)
Don't know if any of that will click with you, but since you're looking to expand your comic reading, some of those will hopefully be helpful.
