Being an old fart from the 70's, I watched a lot of tv. One of my fav shows was The Six Million Dollar Man. It was a show about astronaut Col. Steve Austin testing out a new spaceship (resembling a space shuttle) which crash landed nearly killing him. Needless to say they (The U.S. Government) decided to rebuild him and a guy named Oscar Goldman sent him on all kinds of government missions to do all kinds of impossible . A few seasons later, He later fell in love with Jamie Sommers...a famous tennis player who had a terrible parachuting accident in which she broke her legs, ear and eye, etc. Heartbroken, Steve Austin begged Oscar to robotize her too so he wouldn't lose her. Needless to say, they sent her on all kinds of missions too. They even faked her death for awhile.
Okay...its now 2007. Imagine this milk. A bunch of tv executive types sitting around brainstorming about what to release this fall. One guy says, "we're getting killed by shows like Smallville" and "Heroes" and ...lets do something like that". Another guy says..."hey, I got an idea, remember The Bionic Man?" "Retro is pretty hot right now, lets do that!" Another guy..."Lets skip Steve Austin all together...lets make it some hot chick the bionic woman....no lets make two bionic women and make it a cat fight!!!!" RAWR! Great idea! Lets do it! We can put the chicks in tight jeans and kick in a few alternative rock tunes and we've got a hit!
*applause is heard and coffee is sipped in background*
Ok, enough of my melodramatic ranting...the show is pure FAIL. I didn't like it. They completely skipped over poor Steve Austin and went for the sex appeal first. They even had the nerve to do a peter parker/spiderman roof jump...how copycat can you get? Reality shows suck, game shows suck, tv in general sucks.
sigh. neutral
Rate 4/10 FAIL.

I've not seen it so I can't say whether I think it works or not;
The Six Million Dollar Man and his female counterpart were MASSIVE programmes in my childhood. I'd even say (Steve at least) was a bigger weekly event than Adam West's Batman. As I come towards my 40th birthday, In many ways I've gone full circle and I'm back where I started; I've got a house like a toy-shop, I read Beano & Dandy again, half of my TV watching is taken up by cartoons, and Adam West is on the telly once more. All that said, one part of my kid life that I really don't think survived the test of time is bionics. I've truthfully tried! I still love the opening credits but once you get beyond that, it leaves me thinking.... nah. It's a fond memory from a happy time. But thats about it. It's not that I don't watch things that I did as a child (I really do!!), but this one isn't up there now.
& then, I saw the trailer for this, and I thought it looked GOOD! The trailer was surprisngly long (it must've been about 5 minutes). I was pulled in enough to decide I'll have a look at it! The trailer was strange as it was almost like a condensed version of what must be episode 1.
Also, one of the other forums I go on (Doctor Who) has a thread about it, those that saw it said it was ok. They were no greats or excellents, but it kinda passed.
I do want to see it, not sure when it will be on in the UK though.
