I'm not just saying Batman because I'm a fan. But when you are a small child and you witness your parents deaths, that stays with you for the rest of your life. You just don't forgot about that. You think about it. It's there in the back of your mind. Lingering in the darkness. Whenever your angry at yourself or depressed, you think of that. You think it's your fault that your parents died.

You want to do something that will make that pain go away. You think you can make a difference and become somebody who can keep that from happening to another person or child. And you do. You do become a difference. Even if people suddenly turn their backs on you because they don't know what to make of it. But that pain, that memory, that'll always be there.

But that's what keeps you going. That's what keeps crime off the streets late at night. Because you have that drive to do good, on your terms. You don't cross that line. You don't kill. You just do what you think is right. You know that line between right and wrong. Even in the darkest of situations, you never cross that line.

That's what Batman is. He can make a difference even if the people of Gotham don't quite understand why. It doesn't matter. Bruce Wayne doesn't need fancy powers or abilities. He faces life every single day both as Bruce Wayne and as Batman. Even if he contemplates giving up the cowl, he knows what he must do. Gotham will always need Batman even if those people don't think so.

He's the best chance they have of surviving whatever threat comes their way. Batman will always be needed.
