Everyone likes talking about music, right? So I decided to start a thread on it. Here's a place to talk about your favorite bands/artists and post links to music videos, performances, ETC.
Anyone who knows me knows I'm a certifiable Stone Temple Pilots junkie. Their second album, Purple, is just about my favorite album of all time and I have listened to their music on an almost daily basis for about the last 2 years (yeah, that much of a junkie.) They came out with a really solid album recently, which is also their first new album in 9 years. Anyway, here's some videos of their stuff, old and new:
Vasoline ('94)
Plush ('00)
Lady Picture Show ('97)
Interstate Love Song ('08)
Between the Lines ('10)
Ok guys, now it's your turn!

Like I said my taste in music is like my taste in men....
Oswald: Not necessarily a bad thing.
Me: No. I was just making a point.
Batman: I thought women had good taste in music AND men...
Me & Oswald: OH SHUSH! Nobody asked you.

I'm quite a fan myself; I have all their studio albums except the latest. I'm also learning some of their songs on guitar & bass. They got made fun of early on for ripping off other popular grunge bands, but you especially realize how unique they are when you learn to play their songs. Dean uses such wierd chords, and I love the lounge influence on Robert's bass playing, particularly on Purple.
So far I've heard "Between the Lines" and just don't care for it, partly from being forced to hear it on the radio at work. While it has a nice melody, it sounds much like Velvet Revolver and as though it was just thrown together quickly, especially the repetative chorus lyrics. I've read that the album sounds much like The Beatles, so hopefully as a whole it's different/better than that lead single.

Yeah, I never really liked the grunge comparisons. In my opinion, the DeLeo's are more comparable to classic rock players like Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones then their 90s contemporaries. I think they were done in by the production of the first album being to grunge styled, and of course Weiland having the same influences as Eddie Vedder.

I think it's a good album, but then again I like the new single. I'll say it's deffinitely a lot different than their previous albums. It's sort of a "You either like it or you don't" situation.
Here are some of my favorite tracks form the new album:
Take A Load Off (I hear this is the next single)
Cinnamon
Dare if you Dare
Hickory Dichotomy
First Kiss On Mars
I think those cover all the extremes of the album.

I'm not familiar with them. I'm checking them out right now and really enjoying what I've heard so far.
As long as we're on the subject of 90s rock bands, Live was the first rock band I ever fell in love with. Throwing Copper and Mental Jewelry are definitiely two of my desert island discs.

Live! Oh man, I remember them!!
And MP is pretty great too. A lot of people only know that Sex & Candy song but they had a bunch of really good tunes on that disc. That and Shapeshifter.

I love the fact that I don't like boy-band-wannabe singers who sound like if Twilight was a band & had a lead singer. Justin Beiber is like Edward Cullens with a music career....

It makes me cringe. It really does.

Haha!
Seriously though, anyone here a U2 fan of some sort? One of my favorite bands ever, and I know they have a large fan base, but outside of my younger brother, no one I personally know really likes them, some of my friends actually dislike them quite a bit. But yeah, I'm into a pretty big range of music, don't care for Country or Rap though. |

I like their early work quite a lot. War is actually a favorite album of mine. And Under A Blood Red Sky is just about my favorite live album ever.
