My brother is good at keeping quiet during important scenes and joking at appropriate parts, but I've had friends that nearly ruined scenes for me by chatting during them. Annoyingly enough, most people tend to go to the movies without inviting me, so I go for the first time with them after they've already seen it once. But I wouldn't mind much going alone if I lived closer and had no other option.

I think it's different for every person.
For me, it depends on the movie. If it's something really intense and emotional, I'd rather go alone and give it my full attention. I've plans to see Spider-Man 3 with a friend whose a big Spidey fan.
Try going by yourself, it's really cool.

I go to the theatre by myself every so often during the day if I have the day off an all my friends are at work. I usually don't do that with the BIG movies, though. Hell, there's nothing wrong with going by yourself if you've got some time to kill.
I saw it opening night, it's a movie I've been waiting about 7 years for. I wanted to see a movie the moment I first finished the graphic novel. 300 is a staggering acheivement, it's honestly one of the best movies I have ever seen. More than ever, I'm satisfied that Watchmen is in safe hands with Zack Snyder in the director's chair.
If any of you are the slightest bit interested, you MUST see 300 in the theatre. You'll be kicking yourself for years to come if you don't.
The nudity isn't nearly as rampant as we've been led to believe, there are 3 scenes total, and nothing explicit. I figure it's safe for most kids over 11 or 12 years old.

Blimey, high praise indeed!
Re alone or not? I tend to go alone most of the time. I've got zero problem with it. There is no way in the world my girlfriend would ever come and see Batman, Superman, Spidey films etc. We see some films together, but not a lot (last thing was Black Dahlia). I like it on my own. I like cinemas best when they're largely empty, so on days off (in daytime), or when a film has been out for a while is when I tend to go. I saw Ghost Rider on Monday afternoon and there were about 6 people in the whole place.
What on earth prompted that? You feeling lonely or something Phil? Re friends that crack jokes & stuff, when I was a teenager, a crowd of us used to go the cinema together. I remember us seeing (amongst other things) Top Gun, Aliens, 1984, Mad Max etc. A friend of mine was a right joker, and he'd often quip out loud (and usually have the place laughing). I also remember, probably the funniest 2 hours of my life was when slightly inebriated, watching Beverly Hills Cop one Saturday evening, with a crowd of about 6 people. The only jokes that night were on screen!
Also quite coincidentally, the subject of the thread is very relevant. As this is post number 300 for me. |
