The Penguin
The Batman, Series 3: Mattel, 2005. SKU# H1350

Another member of the Rogues Gallery makes their debut in the new rendition of Batman. While this Penguin is not as sophisticated as his counterpart in BTAS, he is not as vile as he appeared in Batman Returns either. He falls somewhere in between those extremes for a new take on a legendary villain.

SPECS:

5 ?? tall (with Hat on, 4? without,) 5 points of articulation, (Head, Shoulders, Elbows, Waist.) Lever activated swinging arm action. Includes an Umbrella and a Mace.

PROS:

The translation to a figure was outstanding. Unlike The Joker, this figure looks exactly as he appeared in the show. I like the removable Top Hat. I can?t recall any Penguin figures in the past that had a removable one. He has his trademark umbrella and this time it?s closed which I think may be another first for this character?s action figure.

CONS:

Only 5 points of articulation and even that is very limited. While he is articulated at the shoulders and elbows, his arms do little more than stick straight out to either side. The Hands are molded for specific accessories, Right is the Mace and Left is the Umbrella

His Right Arm is activated by the lever in his back a swings the Mace clockwise around at the elbow. This makes the Mace swing upwards (away from the target) rather than counter clock wise which would allow him to pound on the target.

While it will stand on it?s own it should have had more weight in the Legs to help keep it from falling forward because his feet are pointed straight out to the sides and not pointed forward at all.

OVERALL:

This is a decent figure. Because it?s The Penguin he?s a tough choice not to get. I had read reports online that his Hat was hard to keep on. That?s not my observation as I moved my figure around picking him up by his Hat. While not the tightest fit, it was snug enough to stay on.

Some of the pictures in this review made use of the white wall behind the figure and tape to create some of the poses shown.

With the limited amount of villains produced this is solid buy and hard to pass up.

There is a trick to it. "Hook" it in the back and "snap" it on in front. Mine has been wearing his for quite some time now without it falling off.
