A promotional poster sent to video retailers reveals that the feature-length documentary "Look, Up in the Sky: The Amazing Story of Superman" is set to receive its TV premiere on June 12, just days before it hits DVD on June 20.
The Superman Homepage has discovered that a shortened version will air on A&E in the US on June 12 (and possibly 2 other dates after that before Superman Returns is released to theaters).
Reportedly the DVD will be at BEST BUY stores exclusively with a bonus disc of behind-the-scenes Superman Returns material on June 20th for 3 months before being released to other stores.

Is this going to be in the 14 disk Superman set that is coming this fall? I was planning on getting that, so I am hesitant to pick this up since I don't want to end up with two copies.

I don't think so, then again, I could be wrong. But I assume most places will sell it for about 10 bucks.

Here's the story behind the phenomenon of Superman, the most merchandised and imitated superhero of them all. Through interviews with the key creative talents responsible for seven decades of thrilling Superman adventures, we'll follow the Man of Steel's path from Depression-era comic book hero to George Reeves's TV portrayal in the 50s, Christopher Reeve's movies in the 70s and 80s, and the TV shows Lois and Clark and Smallville. There'll even be a sneak preview of the new film, Superman Returns, to be released this summer.

The A&E presentation 2-hours version of LOOK UP IN THE SKY: THE AMAZING STORY OF SUPERMAN Was Spectacular The documentary was well made, It covered all of SUPERMAN's History . I can't wait to own & see the entire full version June 20th . The previews for SUPERMAN RETURNS are outstanding . Routh, Bosworth & Spacey will without a doubt WILL Restore The SUPERMAN movie franchise . I can't wait to see SUPERMAN RETURNS June 27 @ 10 : 00 .

I caught it last night. It was a pretty good documentary. It is basically what Empire of Dreams was to Star Wars.
A lot of it was stuff that I already knew, which is really just a good sign as to how good Les Daniels' Complete History of Superman was. Everything before Smallville is in that book.
One thing that was annoying was that they kept repeating the same stuff about how great Superman is over and over. It was almost as if they were hypnotizing the audience or something. I am more of the stance that you say that he is modern americana mythology that the whole world relates to once and then move on. Don't tell us twenty times.
Despite that, it is definitely worth watching. You can see some clips at AETV.com.
