Danny Elfman's theme was originally used in BTAS even though Shirley Walker was the main composer. However, Walker eventually formulated her own theme, which suited the series a lot better. However, in the first few episodes, you can hear Elfman's theme quite clearly, like in the episode 'Nothing to Fear' you hear it all the time in fight scenes and things like that. It just dawned on me, watching that particular episode, how much the Elfman theme doesn't suit the Animated Series. Does anyone else agree?

Ever since Elfman's theme was heard by everyone, you couldn't really think of another theme to repalce for a time. The actual theme or a similar one would work either way.

I think that Elfman's theme only worked for the feel of the Burton films, and that it wasn't by any means the definitive Batman tune, even if it is one of the catchiest. I firmly believe that there is no way that Elfman's tune would have worked in Batman Begins, because it was too aggressive and exaggerated for the subtle feel of Batman Begins.

Shirley Walker's Mask of the Phantasm theme will always be the definitive Batman theme for me but I think Danny Elfman's suited the series extremely well too.

Marge: No, a scientist!
Homer: Batman's a scientist.

As a musician, let me tell you that the BTAS theme is slightly different than when you first hear it in the 1989 movie...Its the same score with a few minor adjustments that I cant really explain, all I can say is to listen to both themes over and over again and you`ll know what I`m talking about...To be honest with you I dont think that there can ever be any theme to completley capture Batman, and it made perfect sense that Danny Elfman didn`t cover it in Batman Begins because it delt with a whole new ball game which means lets do it with all new different people!
