I was reading Batman: War On Crime again today and there was a passage that got me thinking:
Now, Bruce Wayne became Batman after seeing his parents murdered. Over the years, he has met good people like Gordon, and stopped many villians like the Joker. However, if his parents didn't get murdered, he still would've gone with the same steps of his father since he was a city hero, but he wouldn't be able to stop the Joker (if that still happened), Penguin or even Two Face. Without Batman, the plans that got foiled, would be successes.
Then there's Superman. Kal-El/Clark Kent became Superman because of Krypton exploded and he rocketed to earth like a science fiction moses. With the strength off Hercules, he became his new persona fighting for the common man. But if Krypton didn't explode, he sure would've followed his father's footsteps too. But without him on Earth, Lois would've died in a plane crash or any other accident, Luthor would've been Earth's tyrant, and many other things that probably could've led to earth's destrucation would happen right then and there.
With that in mind, are the tragic things these two heroes experienced still tragic? Or the best things that could've happened to them because it gave them a destiny and the emans to forfill it?
What are your thoughts?
NOTE: "best things that could've happened to them because it gave them a destiny and the emans to forfill it" is from the passage from Batman: WOC in case someone asks or points it out.
You don't get it, boy... this isn't a mudhole... it's an operating table.
(crack!)
And I'm the surgeon.

its still tragic for the two heroes and it sucks for them. its only good for the world. its not like they like doing what they do right? they do it because they feel they have to. i dont know much about superman, but batman does it cuz he doesnt want what happend to him to happen to anyone else.

you make very interesting points, I'll get back to you on what I think.
well nate some of the plans that were foiled wouldnt have ever happened if bruce hadnt become batman. such as joker never becoming joker eliminating all the crimes he's done as the joker

i bet even if batman went back in time to stop the death of his parents, i bet u somehow they wud die. but that wud only be true if FATE is real in the comic world. which doesnt. cuz in JLU, flash was supposed to die, but he didnt. so who knows?

Doesn't matter...the guy who became The Joker was still a crook/killer...had he not become the joker he still would've went on commiting crimes despite Batman's interference.
