LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES
201 - THE MAN FROM THE EDGE OF TOMORROW PART 1
PLOT:
An older wiser Clark returns from the 21st century to aid the Legion, only to meet up with a 41st century Superman clone, Kell-El, who needs the group's help against the intergalactic menace of Imperiex.
REVIEW:
After the first season, I enjoyed the show. Some people might've thought of the show being a Superman (there are those still calling him Superboy) co-starring the Legion of Superheroes, but it was a show about the two. It was a show about the team of superheroes as much as it was a show about a young Superman. Now we enter season two, and we have a new Superman along side the well-known Superman. As the promos showed; we're getting a more of a weapon than a hero Superman from the 41st Century teaming up with the Legion and the 21st Century Superman, both whom have aged by two years. And Impereix, who no fans cared for from the awful Our Worlds at War crossover. But he was promised to be better in the show, so we're open to see him. Hopes are high, excitement on all side. Here is the first of the two part premiere and the first episode of the new season.
Two years have passed and the Legion has grown since Season 1. Brainiac has been in the simulator, trying to fight along side Superman even though his Legionaires keep on saying that Superman won’t back to their time. That is until a time portal opens and Superman appears, but it’s not the one they know: Superman X. Despite Brainiac’s pleads, they go to New Metropolis of the 41st Century: a wasteland of their future. This Superman’s enemies show up and they see how this Superman fights while they fight for their lives too. Once the fight is over, Brainiac and Superman argue, with the 41st Century Superman telling him he knows the “other Brainiac”. From there, the Legion learns about Impereix. Later, the team prepares for Impereiex’ forces and plan to attack.
The 41st Century Superman is known as Superman X, as said in the episode, and he is what we have been told: more of a weapon than a hero, and nothing like our Superman. He sees an enemy, he goes in to take care of them by whatever means. He has these beams on his hands that reminds of Marvel’s Wolverine, so maybe they wanted a bad boy for the show. He is also hotheaded, wanting to fight than plan ahead.
As for other thing; the Legion has grown since Season 1. Lightning Lad looks it, and has a beard. He is even more of a leader than an idiot in the first season. Brainiac doesn’t look like a kid anymore, and he seems to be more evolved. Yet, it’s only the men. The women don’t look like they aged nor do they look any different here than in Season 1. Women go through puberty to, y’know. This is the first time I’m seeing or knowing Impereix, and from the idea that he can be a threat to the whole galaxy, New Metropolis is now a Mad Max-like wasteland (I’m guessing here), and even the Legion can have a hard time seem to show he is major villain. Again, since I never read the comic version, I wouldn’t know if the animated version is better as fans would know that, but he seems be a major threat for this season. So I’m ready for him in the future.
Overall, this episode was a good start for this season. It set ups the villains and the Legion all for this season and I’m ready for it. Superman X is an interesting character, and I happen to like him. I can’t wait until Superman X meets his original in the next episode. So, a good one and Season 2 is looking to be a great season.
RATING: Yay (Good)

Chris, actually, I don't know anything from the LoSH outside the show, but if one fo them is gone, doesn't that mean the last two would become Duo Damsel?

all i can say is that the new superman is awsome!
he's got a good design, and cool super powers. that pretty much does it for me. i'm liking the mullet, lol. the black eyes look cool too. i'm still hoping to see batman beyond or some kinda of future batman. or maybe another "let's go back in time and get terry mcginnis, he'll know what to do" type of thing.
This was the first time that I watched this show because I didn't have the CW last TV season. It is a really fun show. It will be interesting to see how they handle the in-continuity Superboy's (Young Superman, whatever) character. The old Superboy stories in the comics are not exactly the best things that I have read, so the modern take should make for a good change.
Superman X seems to me to be more of a clone of Batman than Superman. Some of the lines and the tone of the voice fit more with the Dark Knight than the Man of Steel. His interaction with the early version of himself should be interesting.
I am impressed with how the cartoon handles the Legion. These characters have a really long history in the comics, and everyone that had lines seemed to be done in line with the original version (except for the man crush between Brainiac 5 and Superman). I would like to see a little more of Cosmic Boy and Saturn Girl, but they have plenty of episodes coming up.
