So here is the news. In case you don't know, there will be a tie-in to The Dark Knight for the direct-to-video market, titled Batman Anime. Before people were in their thoughts on what was to expect. Now, we have the first sketches and information on this.

The sketches and the infomation can be seen here:
http://www.newsarama.com/movies/DCanimated/BatmanAnimeDVD.jpg

The description reads:
Set in the period between BATMAN BEGINS and THE DARK KNIGHT, this brand new adventure follows BATMAN as he unravels a mystery over six original stories done in the style of Japanese Anime. Each of the six original stories has been written by a highly respected screenwriter or comic book creator. The talent includes Academy Award nominee Josh Olsen (The History of Violence), screenwriter of the Blade films and Batman Begins David Goyer, and famed comic book writer Brian Azzarello, among others.

The Batman Anime DVD is viewed as a perfect companion piece to BATMAN BEGINS and THE DARK KNIGHT. The original stories introduce a number of classic characters from the DC Comics BATMAN universe as well as following up on characters and storylines that were introduced in BATMAN BEGINS.

Target: Core fans and tween boys

Rating: PG-13 (anticipated)

Release: 2-4 weeks in advance of TDK film release.

While the two drawings are legitimate concept art for this project, the background images are old sketches form TB; they are most likely being used to give us the general idea of what the art will look.

Note: I am not doubting the legitimacy of the file, I'm just saying they're using previously made art to give us window into the feel of the show.

i hope the costume is similar to the movies. i hope it's all black! that would look awesome.

it's hard to make batman look anime because the costume itself just cant really look anime, especially the mask. i just hope the people look anime-ish (cowboy bebop styled).

designs look nice though. i hope they dont use the yellow oval though. while i dont mind it, it wouldn't really be in continuity with the movies.

It must be. Or they could add some things from the comics on to it since its animated. Similar to the Hellboy Animated, where Hellboy was his more comic version than the movie version.

The images with the oval are probably from The Batman's early production stages... I know I've seen them before for anouther production.

are you sure? none of the TB guys draw like that. they tend to have sharp edges, while this is smoother. i really hope it's for this new dtv thing...it looks really good. the eyes look very TB-like though.

Concept art is often very differnent from the finished product... These images look like they have a lot of insperation from the silver-age Batman, which was the basis of TB's design.

And not all the art from early production comes through in the final production, this is probabvly a design that was rejected for the more simplified design in the final product.

i dont think so man...cuz neither jeff matsuda nor jose lopez draws like that. show me an artist with that style that worked on The Batman, and then i'll believe you. otherwise, i'm going to assume ur just talking like u know everything when u dont.

the proportions are too right and realistic; it doesnt remind me of TB at all. i say it's legit early production sketches of this anime batman thing.

Phil, calm down.

I could be right, I could be wrong. But the thing is, not all the people who do concept art for a show go on to work on the actual program. I doubt they're using the oval design in the show (Doubt, I'm not saying they won't, it's just my beliefe they won't).

I know Matsuda didn't do the above design. But I also know they were originally going for realistic preportions, here's an early story board from the show, probably Matsuda's

http://www.batmanunmasked.com/albums/userpics/10001/01%7E29.jpg

As you can see, it was initially a much more realistic design.

It's a series of short stories that take place between the movies. I don't think the stories will be related, and IO don't think they'll be an essential part of the movies canon. Kinda like the Animatrix.

oh i dont think theyre using the oval either. like u said before, concept art is different from what it'll actually look like.

i hope it's like animatrix where theres different styles for each story. but i doubt it.

will batman bleed? bleeding is a big thing with animes. lol. constant bleeding, and it takes them a couple episodes to die. but i guess it depends on which kind of anime.

I was on IMDB and I noticed that under the Batman Anime page, they list Bruce Timm as executive producer. Is there truth to this?
