For those who have expectations of Harvey Two-Face being alive, I'm sorry to kill them but in the official novelization it explains that he dies. In chapter Twenty-Five pages 286(last sentence)-287 (first paragraph)
Gordon grabbed his flashlight and shined it into the hole. At the bottom, Dent was sprawled, neck twisted, the mutilated side of his face exposed, his left eye open and staring sightlessly. He was obviously dead.
Death is not quite what it seems in the comic books, so why would films based on comic books be so different?
I think Two-Face lived and he might be back in the next film and be the main villain as Batman tries to clear his name.
I'll take your word for it, as I won't be reading the novelization.
THOUGH, if the DVD commentary (which we ALL will hear, I am certain) also says that he is dead . . .
He IS!
Fine
Deceased
A dead parrot dead
Marley dead
Not coming bad unless a zombie (HEAH! They did that with Jason Todd)
Now of one mind on the matter
Pinto dead
Railway Express Agency/REA Express dead and gone
So, I would be surprised to see him in another film, at least for a while.

The script does say he dies... But the movie gave you absolutely no proof of his death... My guess is that aftr Heath Ledger's death they decided to leave Harvey's fate open ended iso tha they don't have to drop both villians in a future sequel.
And movie novelizations often have plot elements that are later contradicted in a sequel...

i hope he's alive. harvey's bad-side eye looked alive to me. it wasn't like just dead, it was kinda shaky. i'm guessing eyeballs go a little crazy when people are passed out.
it's all speculation at this point. we'll have to wait for the commentary...unless they wanna play with us even more, and not say anything about it.

I used to trust the novels for details that didn't come through in the movie. Then I read the X-Men 2 novel before seeing the movie. Jean survives. I was sitting in the theatre saying to my wife, this isn't supposed to happen. I got pretty jaded pretty fast about how things change between the script, novel and movie.
The more I think about it, they should leave it unknown until the next movie comes out. Gives us something to talk about.

It only makes sense to bring Two-Face back in the third movie. Personally, I cannot think of any other villains that can top the Joker, Two-Face, and Ra's al Ghul. |

Penguin
Bane
Ventriloquist and Scarface (Now that I'd LOVE to see Nolan do!)
The Mad Hatter (same as above - the potential to create a grubby, hideously evil little man could be right up Nolan's street)
Riddler
Mr Freeze (despite the kicking he's taken on the other thread - check out the otherwise quite daft "Under The Hood" to see what can be done with Freeze)
Deadshot
Killer Croc
Killer Moth
Poison Ivy
Deathstroke (dunno if would count though but I think he'd be great)
I'll grant you some of those don't immediately grab you as being part of the Nolan scene (in truth I can't quite imagine Killer Moth making Batman III), but the list is endless. Nolan has taken a comic book and turned it into dazzlingly and grim urban life on the big screen - whoever he picks to follow DK up, it'll be good. If it's not as good as DK, that's simply because that was as good as any film I've seen.
I know you said you couldnt see them topping the people so far (and not that he couldnt do them), but as Razhwurz likes to say "trust Nolan". If he has that as his mantra, I think I'll make mine "Batman III - Robin Begins".

I actually think Deadshot could work. I'm not sure if he'd work totally on his own, but I've had an idea in my head that while Batman would be fighting to clear his name someone would put a contract on Gordon's head - and Deadshot would be the one attempting to collect the bounty. |

What Christopher Nolan has done with this Batman franchise is truly a remarkable story . Here is basically unknown director who Has had a successful run in most of the films he's done . Takes on a Franchise that at one time was a mega blockbuster film franchise, until it went down the tubes . Under his wing making it a Darker, more gritter , realistic psychological thriller Batman films . That seems to not only please us (Fanboy & fangirls), but also The Critics & the general movie audience Both Batman Begins & The Dark Knight are critically acclaimed & Mega Box Office Hits . Now it seems that other films are following Nolan formula . (Example - Iron Man)
To Quote Heath Ledger Joker
"You've Change Things Forever their's no going Back ."
As I've said early on in this thread
"Batman Begins Raised The Bar , The Dark Knight has redefined the Superhero genre FOREVER."
I wouldn't be surprised to see the massive influence TDK will have on the next batch of Superhero film that are on the horizon . I can't wait to see it .

One thing I remember about a novel adaption, is the one of the first Spider-man movie, I remember reading that the Green Goblin's glider ran through his chest at the end of the movie, but in the actual movie it stabs him through his pelvis area...pretty big difference there. Anyway, I know that's hardly worth bringing up, but where do the authors of the novels get their information of the movies?
I'm hoping he's alive myself, because it'd work good I think for the 3rd movie, also I like Harvey so much that I hated to see him die anyway.
As for another villain in the 3rd, I'm trying to think who'd be a good one. Catwoman would be pretty cool (regardless whether or not she's a heroine or villain), but she'd need a good backstory. Has it ever been explained in the comics how she's able to do all those kinds of things like jumping around on building and such? I can't think of a time when Mr. Freeze has been a great character for me, he was okay in TAS, but I just can't see him as a good villain in these movies.
Whatever they choose to do, I trust Nolan and co. And while I doubt it will be greater than The Dark Knight, I'm sure it'll do the series justice. Also, we Bat-fans may be speaking out of turn as to if they'll be another movie, or did I miss something? Has there been an official announcement? |

They should have brought some of the next movie's villian so we have a clue.

I think they're making us work for it this time... Subtle hints to the villians insead of throwing it in our faces.
First we've got the cat referance, and that is widely considered as a throw away joke... But if I wanted to leave a clue to the next villian I'd hide it in plain sight instead of trying to make it clever or obvious... So why not in a throw away joke?
And I believe cdemink brought up the fact that Mr. Reese sounds like mysteries... I.E. A Riddler hint. Now I'm pretty sure Reese isn't Riddler. But since knows Batman's identity he'd possibly be targeted by some people who want that info...

I think the same thing but I would still like some sort of clue, it would be cool if the police radios said something in the backround like "He is threatning to blow up Gotham Harbor he is asking us some sort of riddle" or something like that. I think the working for who is the villian is alot of fun.

Sometimes I think people look too much into words and believe its a sign of something deeper.
For example when Lucius says cat, I still don't get why people automatically assume its about Catwoman. My thinking was it was just a joke because it a humorous answer to Bruce question about dogs.
Another was when Batman said he doesn't need any help. People started thinking it was a reference to no Robin. I thought it was his way of saying "Don't get in my way" to the Batman wannabes.
Maybe I'm wrong but I don't want to start thinking about a new movie when nothing is being developed. I'd rather enjoy what we have now which is The Dark Knight.

I am with you on that but like how they showed the Joker card in Begins they should atleast do something in the backround. The riddle thing would be obvious if you listen to a movie. I mean, who uses a riddle in a crime other than Riddler?

i think christopher nolan tried his best to tie things up to make the dark knight, THE batman movie. i think he tried to make the end all be all batman movie. and in my opinion, he did. i honestly don't know what one could do to make it better.
but he probably has something up his sleeve. i'm psyched to see the next one.
