You're right...realistically he would be dead. But....realisitically there's no lazarus pit and the special features on the DVD acknowledge the existence of the pit and Talia. So who knows? |

I think it was an attempt to explain some of the characters in the film and elaborate on where they came from. Because you can't explain every detail in a 2 hour flick. It's a recognition of the die hard fans and opens up possibilities for future stories. |

How bout this...If they ever decided to bring Ras Al Ghul back- like the very last instant before the train hit the ground, Talia swung in on a rope or somethin and got her father out of there, Ras realizes that he has met his match who is none other than Batman, in which case respects him and thats why he is chosen to take over trying to rid the world of evil and wants him to marry Talia. And I dont think Ras Al Ghul is actually "IMMORTAL" by definition, he has only lived for so long because of the lazerus pit but if shot, stabed, etc then thats it! Resurection is not immortality...its just...well resurection lol. Ras Al Ghuls immortality only comes from his reputation as a legend.
"Look, I never wanted this for myself...but I wanted Batman and Robin back together the way they should be. And if Dick won`t become Robin again...Someone else has to!" - Tim Drake, A LONELY PLACE OF DYING Chapter five: Rebirth |

I agree with the Resurrection vs. Immortality point, but come on! No more Ra's.

I?ve been dormant, for the most part, ever since this site crashed and reopened this past October (reverting me back to zero posts).
Previous to that occurrence, I was the one who FIRST entertained the thought of (aside from a possible return of Cillian Murphy?s Scarecrow in a sequel) why shouldn?t we expect the INVALUABLE return of Liam Neeson?s character of Ra's Al Ghul as well as introducing the character of Talia to the plot as a love interest for Bruce Wayne??
My thoughts were that Ra's Al Ghul shouldn?t be an EMPHASIS in future sequels AND probably not be realized until a third or even fourth sequel? BUT THE NOTION STILL SHOULD BE CONSIDERED.
_____
BATMAN BEGINS was the instrument by which Ra's Al Ghul acts as Wayne?s mentor.
WHY BOTHER INTRODUCING the character of Ra's Al Ghul into the film IF THEY WERE NOT going to utilize the most unique aspect of his character? that being he is (in a sense) immortal?
Couldn?t they just as well had Ken Watanabe?s persona establish the ?League of Shadows? and utilize the Henri Ducard character solely as Bruce Wayne?s mentor and leave it at that?
They could have? but they didn?t.
Instead, they purposely made the father-figure mentor turn out to be the villain as well.
The teacher is the enemy.
___
The ESSENCE of Ra's Al Ghul ever since his creation in 1971 is that he is able to be rejuvenated again and again with the Lazarus Pits? all along accumulating knowledge and establishing power over the centuries, THEN IN A NEW TWIST from BATMAN BEGINS? he seeks out the perfect pupil (Bruce Wayne) which he feels is as disgusted with mankind and Gotham City as he is.
ALL THAT? and they simply want to have him eliminated in a train crash?
