Thoughts on the B3 news? I laughed when somebody compared the title to a porno.
Heard the B3 news literally seconds after I woke up this morning. Was sadened by the title and the Riddler news. I really wanted and thought and just assumed he'd be the villain. I think the title is redundant of both the other films. I would have prefered Gotham Dawn since dawn was Harvey's way of saying hope and Batman is bringing it back to Gotham or Knight Strike since Batman is being chased. Plus all sucky films have rises at the end and that doesn't fit a Nolan film or even any film for the matter. It sounds like a fan fic. More so than just Gotham or even Gotham Knight. Was hoping for something big and suprising. Now all I hope for is Hardy to be casted as Bullock and if not then Black Mask. I think both Selina and Talia should be considered but I don't think they should be villains. And if Selina becomes Catwoman, I hope for it to be minor and barely mentioned.

I thought Batman Begins was a lousy title, but it turned out to be a great film and led to The Dark Knight, yet another boring title. The Dark Knight Rises may not be the best title, but as long as it stands up the level of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight who cares?

A small problem I have with the title is that it leaves Batman Begins out a little, in my opinion. I probably would have preferred they leave "The Dark Knight" out of the title. But overall it's not bad, and titles don't matter much at the end of the day anyway.
And I was glad when I found out about Riddler. I'm not sure why so many just assumed he would be the villain so soon. |

At first, I loved the title. But I think that was just excitment at finally getting real news on the movie.
Now that I realy think about it, it's a little too close to "Batman Word" if you know what I mean. They just took the title of the last film and lopped a word o nthe end of it. I would probably prefered "Rise of The Dark Knight" or something to that effect.

The Dark Knight was never viewed as a bad title. When people heard the title they said "I wanna see that." not "it sounds boring." The title sounds worst than a fan fic.

The whole inclusion of the word rises eerily gives me the thought that Schumacher would have used that title given the chance

oh c'mon guys, The Dark Knight Rises is a good title. lol. it fits well with the previous titles - it uses "the dark knight" and takes "rises" from "begins" in batman begins. i think it's a good end title that binds all of them together, you know?
this is the way i see it...
batman begins = dusk (gold/organge hue)
the dark knight = night (blue hue)
the dark knight rises = dawn (reddish hue?)
i think these movies will end up being a representation of the transformation of bruce wayne into his complete rebirth in batman, depicted using the transition from dusk to dawn. yeah??

I'm wondering what the term "Rises" will mean for the movie. "The Dark Knight" was a term in describing a number of things in the second film, not just Batman himself. So I'm curious as to why they chose this title. Would the night "rising" mean that's it's just becoming night time, or does that mean the sun is coming up? |

the sun is coming. most likely.
"the night is darkest just before the dawn. and the dawn is coming"
i think that's in reference to batman rising up as more than just a dark knight hated by the people he protects, but a respected hero! or something like that.

I hope you're right, Phil. I would like to see a triumphant Batman again. I'm curious how Nolan will wrap up his Batman story. |

Awesome analysis Phil! I'd not really thought of that color association before.
As for the title, The Dark Knight was called The Dark Knight because it was about heroes failing, particularly Batman sacrificing his place as a hero to the public. I think his "rise" would most deffinitely mean either his return as a hero.
And Detective; night falls, dawn rises

Yeah, nice idea about rises meaning dawn. Wish they went with Gotham Dawn like I posted but still-- TDK is in the title again and rises is too. The movie title means a lot and this one is redundant of the other two. It sounds like a two pack of Begins and TDK.

Christopher Nolan is out of his mind!
NO RIDDLER?! DX WHAT?! Is he trying to make this a horrible movie?
I CAN NOT believe this. I really can't. The Riddler would have brought in so much gross in fandom. Riddler has fans. Do you realize how much money they could lose because the Riddler is not in this film.
Like the Joker, like Scarecrow, Riddler has a fan base.
I really hope they know what they're doing. I really don't want to have to go down there & tell them what they need to do.
Am I the only one who thinks Riddler would have been the best choice? That him being in the film would have made sense? That him being in the film would not have stepped on Heath Ledger's performance at all but he still would have done an outstanding job nonetheless?
I SO wanted to wear a green bowler hat into the movie theater! DX
I knew they'd make this mistake! I KNEW IT! I don't know about you guys but I'm highly annoyed by this. Purely saddened by the lack of villain choosing for this film.
Like I said before, I really hope they know what they're doing. Because they're not showing it very well, as much as I hate to say it.

I don't think it's that big of a mistake. Riddler is a good character, but there are so many Batman villains... I don't see why there would be only one choice.

Hugo is just a man, like Ra's. Like said, Batman has so many, why waste a whole movie on one like we've seen before? Btw, you guys can tell us ideas here - http://batmanytb.com/forum/viewthread.php?forum_id=15&thread_id=3452&pid=33537#post_33537

i don't understand your logic. ra's, scarecrow, joker, and two-face were all just men. batman is also just a man.
besides, hugo has a totally different modus operandi (mad scientist/psychologist who works at arkham asylum) - if anything, he's closer to scarecrow. he's obsessed with batman, and he dives into his mind. you know what that means? that means this next batman movie can be shutter island, inception, dark knight, and batman begins all rolled into one flavor filled batman burrito.
but what were you expecting? clay face? killer croc? maybe killer croc - but he would end up being "just a man" with some skin disorder. remember nolan is sticking with realism with his bat films. we're not even getting robin because robin's too unrealistic.

All I meant was he that he doesn't have a big gimmick like Scarecrow or Joker because they're themed. He should be theatrical if he's the main villain. Ra's wasn't quite as theatrical as the others and that's all I meant by Hugo and Ghul being simulair. I was expecting Riddler for this last one.

I agree with The Red-Blue Blur, Riddler SHOULD HAVE BEEN in this one.
Riddler could be like the zodiac guy or something. He's realistic. But nobody takes his intelligence seriously enough. Give the guy a computer or something to hack or something. Math/technology based intelligence with a love for puzzles & trying to figure things out & maybe some obsessive/compulsive issues just for the twisted edge.
Make the audience try to figure him out! is he good or is he not? & then just in the last hour and thirty minutes of the film, your routing for him because you can't help it because you can't decide.
Nolan missed the boat with this one. I think the Riddler really would have done rather well.
Just sayin'.

http://www.deadline.com/2010/11/chris-nolan-lines-up-actresses-for-batfilm/
Deadline (the same website that reported Tom Hardy's casting in The Dark Knight Rises) reports that Nolan is not looking for one but rather two female leads for the upcoming movie; reportedly both a romantic interest for Bruce Wayne/Batman, and a female villain.
Actresses Nolan is reportedly scheduled to meet for the roles are Rachel Weisz, Naomi Watts, Blake Lively, Natalie Portman, Anne Hathaway and Keira Knightley.
My ten cents? I'm hoping for Natalie Portman as the love interest and either Naomi Watts or Rachel Weisz as the villainess.
