What's the point of not showing his face when his mask is off? What point does it serve hte story or the character? He wears a mask... It's not like you'll recognize him as Black Mask if you see his face as Sionis. To me, it just comes off as cheesy. I can't help but think of the Claw from Inspector Gadget.
Roman Sionis, in my mind, should be a whole character. Face and all. No faceless villain behind a desk petting a cat. No dissembodied voice. A human being.
And I just don't see a point to burning the mask to his face. I'd much rather see him parrallel Bruce. Wealthy busniess man by day, criminal mastermind by night.
Back on topic, since this is a casting thread.

@Raz...Don't see the point of burning the mask on his face....isn't that how it happend in the comics and are'nt you the person that says the movies should be close to what happens in the comics...I also think there should be a flashback of how Roman became Black Mask, that being said I think Edward Norton would be good in that part he can play whacko very well (Primal Fear, American History X) |

Actually, in his first appearance Black Mask simply wore a mask carved from his mother's ebony coffin. It wasn't until the very end of his first story arc that it was burned onto his face.
And I say we should be loyal to the characters, not specific events. Joker wearing make-up instead of being dropped into chemicals, for instance, isn't exactly what happened in the comics but it doesn't change anything because the character doesn't NEED to be permaclown to exist.
Similarly, Black Mask doesn't NEED to have the mask burned to his face. Being disfigured doesn't define him as a character or even effect him as a character (he was just as loopy before the scarring), so there is no real point to doing it. All it would do is make him reminiscent of Two-face (who, by the way, is defined by his disfiguration).
I say keep it simple, like his original appearance he just wears an ebony mask.
Also, since we always seem to go for realism anytime we Nolanize a character, ebony wouldn't melt on to your face if it was lit on fire... It would just light up and your whole head would be ingulfed in flames. So it would be more realistic for him to just wear a mask.

How about doing a 'Man in the Iron Mask' type thing and have Black Mask's mask be form fitting to his face....Now what do you think of my choice for Black Mask...or can you see Edward Norton as Riddler? |

Well, if you are going to do the whole "perma-mask" thing for him, I can't see any better choice for him than Edward Norton.
If you've ever seen the movie Kingdom of Heaven, Norton plays King Baldwin IV of Jerusalem. His character has a hideously scarred face due to leperosy, so he wears a bronze maks throughout the entire film. You never see his face or even a single patch of skin through the whole movie, but it IS Norton in the suit and he gives one of the best performances I've seen in my entire life.
So in short, Norton's a great choice for Black Mask IMO

Okay if this were my movie (Hey I can dream can't I) my villains would be: Edward Norton-Black Mask
Phillip Seymour Hoffman-Penguin
Steve Buscemi-Mr. Zsasz
Plot: Black Mask and Penguin are battling for control of Gotham's Underworld and be the new 'Boss'. Mr. Zsasz plays one against the other in order to get a higher rank in the sucessful gang, Batman and the police find out and follow him to both gangs before a gangland war irrupts and all involved go to jail.
This is what would happen if I were to make the next Batman movie |

That was Eric Bana. Norton was in the 08 version.

But boywonder93, you don't hear people talking about Edward Norton in 'The Hulk'...most people know him from 'Fight Club', 'Primal Fear', and a personal favorite of mine 'Keeping The Faith'...I don't think it's how good an actor is in a certain role that makes you remember him, it's the movie as a whole that does it. Besides if he is in the mask for most if not all of the movie who will know it's him |

Awesome movie. If I had to pick a favorite of his it would probably be The Score, where he co-stars with Robert DeNiro.
Anyway, he's probably my favorite actor and I'd love to see him play anyone in a Batman movie (he was one of my pics for Two-face), but he'd make a perfect Black Mask

Norton is an awsome actor and could be a great black mask, as far as ivy goes id like to see her in a film if nolan can do it right, but I think they need to cast a natural red head and not give someone a wig. and never again cast uma in anything. I know this isnt the thread for it but does anyone know if it was scions as black mask during and after battle for the cowl?

Nope. Sionis got shot in the face ofr threatening Catwoman's loved ones. The Battle for the Cowl guy is Black Mask II.
Sionis did briefly return as a Black Lantern though.

@Matt...Ivy would be okay for a later movie, I think however in the first movies the villains should be those that the general public knows (Catwoman, Riddler and Penguin) |

Dude, we just spent a page and a half talking about Black Mask. I'm a life long Batman fan and even I didn't know about Black Mask until like 4 years ago.
And Ivy is deffinetly one of the better known villains thanks to the cartoon. She's deffinitely more known than Ras, and she's deffinitely more popluar than Scarecrow or Two-face among casual fans.

@Raz...I was thinking about people that only know about the major criminals..I know fans like us would be cool with those villains but the average movie goers doesn't and they might not see it if the villain isnt well known
I know you're going to say that the first two movies were well received but those movies a) was the first of a new series and people wanted to see how Bale was going to do and b) Joker and 2-Face were in this movie and they were in the last series, they are well known vilains plus it was Ledger's last |

I know a ton of people who don't know crap about Batman who know Poison Ivy. She is pretty much the most identifiable female character from Batman next to Catwoman and Batgirl.
And I think you over estimate the draw of villains in comic book movies. Almost everyone I know went out to see The Dark Knight and most of them enjoyed it. Sure, a lot of people are going to say "it'll suck without Joker", etc. but when the movie comes out people are going out to see it regardless of the villain.
