Mr. Fox does resign but I believe he stays and works at Wayne Enterpises since he says that he will not be at Wayne Enterprises while that machine is functioning, and at the end when he types in his name, the machine self-destructs, also Bruce did make that machine but it was thanks to Mr. Fox's device that he was able to do it so he does need Mr. Fox.
Also I do think that what you say about a 3rd film it's true since I do believe that they're trying to achieve a trilogy and end it there. |

i guess i'm the only one who'd rather see it end this way. I mean OF COURSE i'd like a new movie because you know, i love batman, but in terms of story telling, like many film critics said, as I believe as well, i REALLY dont think nolan can make a third movie better than what he did with dark knight, because of the loss of ledger, not being able to revisit the awesome character of joker will hurt, and also making up a new storyline with an interesting new villain for batman to simply clear his name with will be difficult, but we'll see, in random news i saw the watchmen trailer during the previews to dark knight and god damn, that movie looks like it's gonna be nuts

Lucius Fox's comment about the new Batsuit holding up well against cats leads me to believe that Catwoman would be introduced in the third film. And if that's the case, then I'll be there opening day to see the third film, because I would love to see what the Nolan brothers would do with her character. |

I finally saw the new film and was AMAZED!
I have an idea on the third film villains based on this one. See my post in THAT thread.
Edit:
As it contains spoilers . . .
I'll post it here:
Oh, on who will be in number 3 . . .
The above mentioned cat comment and death of the love interest implies Catwoman.
Also, i have to thing Reese will become someone villainous (perhaps a new version of Riddler). The whole side theme of him IDing Batman and going on TV to openly ID him leads he will play more of a part in the third movie, becoming a "baddy" (perhaps a new manifestation of a 2nd tier villain.
On that note . . .
What plot lines in the comics have had a villain figuring out Batman's identity and using it to blackmail him or use it as a "closely held card?" I seem to remember something like that, but can't find it or recall correctly.
Sum Nox!

I'm definately hoping for Black Mask. If I remember correctly, in the comics, he pretty much became THE mob boss, and gained control of all the other mobs. It would make sense that if Bats is going to finally bring down the mob, he would have to take down Black Mask. Maybe if Batman finally cleared Gotham of all its mobs, the city would start respecting Batman a bit more. That, plus he's a tragic and awesome looking character, much like Two Face.
I also agree with the Catwoman idea. We need another woman for Bruce/Bats, and it would be nice if she wasn't just a damsel in distress for once. I guess Bruce could find out Selina Kyle and Catwoman are one and the same, and it would lead him to have to make the decision of arresting her, or letting her go. To tie her to Bruce, she could have trained in the League of Shadows as well, giving her all her martial arts skills.
And we could maybe have a body guard for Black Mask, like Killer Croc, or Bane. Heck, maybe Penguin could have a small part as an arms dealer who supplies the mobs with their weapons, as everyone keeps saying. I know Nolan said he won't do Penguin, but directors change their minds right and left. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for Riddler, but I'm not sure if he'd work just yet. I'd hate for the epic final battle of possibly the last Batman film to be one of wits. Not very climactic. Maybe in a fourth film that's a bit less dark.
As for the Dark Knight, I hope it keeps breaking records. I know I'm going to see it a few more times, because it deserves every penny it can get, and deserves every record and award in the book.

Dr. Crane isn't here right now, but if you'd like to make an appointment.... |

It was shocking how Rachel died. Do you think Viki Vale will be in the movie after along with Joker? Gordons son and wife must die sooner or later. I think Two-Face was introduced to fast and then he dies. Other wise it was the best movie ever. It made a world record for these reasons-- It was Heath's last work
Joker was in it
It is Batman
People loved Batman Begins
And more reasons

Gordon's son and wife will not die. I can see them maybe leaving because she doesn't like the life in Gotham anymore...

I thought Fox's comment about cats was a joke, since Bruce told Alfred his wounds were from a large dog.

They were.
BUT, they may also me a hint too.
Most viewers will just think stupid joke.
Back to film:
Anyone remember a comics plot line wherein a villain knows Batman's identity as Bruce Wayne?
-I seem to recall something, but can't "put my finger on it."
As for Riddler, I'm not sure if THAT is who Reese will become, but I think he will become SOMEONE from the Rogues Gallery.
I am VERY excited about the third film and think a forth is now quite possible.

Actually I don't think Reese will become a villain, after all Bruce Wayne did save his life and he doesn't know for sure if Bruce Wayne is Batman, is just a wild guess with partial evidence. As for Catwoman, I can't say for sure, Nolan did say that he wouldn't introduce anymore characters that have been seen in the big screen before although he could bring the character of Selina Kyle as Bruce Wayne's love interest and could at the end hint of her begining as Catwoman. To be honest I think people are viewing The Dark Knight as Batman '89 and The Dark Knight sequel as Batman Returns in terms of characters, which I hope isn't the point since I can almost be sure that wouldn't be the case. I do also think that people are making to much a speculation of the Cat comment by Mr. Fox, since there's also other mentions that could point out to villains such as the mention of Anarchy which could be interpret to speculate an adaptation of the villain Anarky, which I don't think is the case. |

Finally saw the movie! Here are my VERY SPOILERY thoughts:
WOW!!!!!!
First, one word: Joker. THAT WAS SOOO THE JOKER!!!! The way he got into peoples face's just to screw with them; his constant antagonization built on a twisted anarchic veiw. The scenes with Batman kicking the crap out of him, the pep talk with Two-face; all so Joker. And I love Heaths performance! Every scene, every movment, every twitch and every stutter gives a window to a complete psychopath.
Second, I have two words for you; Harvey Dent. Joker was amazing, but this representation of Two-face is AMAZING!!!! I read some people think Dent died, but did he? He was never officially said to have die, they just gave him a funeral that was probably there to cover up Two-face from the general public.
Third: Commissioner Jim Gordon. YES!!!!! COMMISSIONER!!!! So amazing, incurruptable and always sympathetic. Struggling with the loss of his friend.
Wow, I'm so blown away I can't write anymore, I write more when I calm down a little

This has to be one of the best movies ive ever seen. And to be honest, going into the theaters i didn't know what to expect. I thought it be good, but i never knew it would completely take my breath away the way that it did. The acting was superb but the thing that impressed me the most was Christian Bales batman.
Ive watched every batman film and have seen pretty much every animated Batman series that has come into existence and i have to say that Christian Bale protrayed Batman better then anyone ever did in the 70 years that Batman has been around. Better then Kevin Conroy, Michael Keaton you name it. He hit the nail with this role.
And he did a good job in Batman Begins but he mastered his Batman role in The Dark Knight. Its so strange because youd never expect him to be Batman, hes compltely different when hes Bruce Wayne and when hes Batman, Michael Keaton did a great job as batman and Bruce wayne but not nearly to the level that Bale did.
Its like their literally 2 different people. What also impressed me about this movie was Heath ledgers Joker role. I didn't know what to expect since knowone had played Joker in a movie in 20 years but he did a magnificent job. Overall this has to be one of the best movies of all time i would defintely give it a 10. |

I agree with Razhwurz. Wow. Just...wow.
I was originally sceptical when I read Heath Ledger was to play The Joker but his performance personified the way I always hoped the character could play out on screen.
And Aaron Eckhart's performance as Harvey was just wonderful. Really, the entire cast did great and this film lived up to the hype.
I'm still too in awe to go on and on, but in terms of a visual experience this film was a feast. I know Nolan said Heat was an inspiritation in how he wanted to show Gotham City but I think Michael Mann would be proud of that.
This film really does burst out of the 'comic book movie' genre and while I know it's unlikely to go on for more than one more movie, but after that they have to give us just one more. Please! |

Speaking of raising the bar on Comic Book films, I've been reading a lot of reviews saying that The Dark Knight has expanded far beyond any psychological depth reached in comic book... Which is interesting, because I think The Dark Knight is the first motion picture ever to even reach the psychological depth of the characters and complex representation of good and evil that is presented in the best comic books.
In fact I loved it so much not because it was deeper than the comics, but that it took that depth from the comics and forged it into one singular, emotional story moving in front of me.

I agree with you there.
I had expected The Dark Knight and Batman III (assuming they are/were going to make one) to be based around The Long Halloween and Dark Victory respectively. I had expected Harvey to become Two-Face toward the end of the film leading to his main role in the third, but the way the Nolans, Goyer and co condensed the main theme of those two stories into one film is just wonderful.
Kind of hard to top that if there are any more films in this series, but I think they can. As you said, it's the first comic book movie to be able to reach the depths of the stories on which its based. If the same team really were up for writing, directing and starring in a third film I think they could reach those heights and depths again.
Having said that, I doubt anyone will top Ledger's performance in terms of bringing a comic book character to life and completely, totally, utterly nailing it. |

A question I keep getting in my mind; what villian could ever possibily stand up to this? You have one character who represents the unrelenting, unstoppable force of evil, and you have a character that we all get a HUGE amount of emotional investment in through the movie to the point where we sympethise with him by the end.
There is no way in Hell Nolan will ever recast Joker. Two-face is too good in his heart to become a threat to the entire city. So where do we go from here? Catwoman? Riddler? Black Mask? Scarecrow? Firefly? Penguin? All motivated by greed. Mr. Freeze? Clayface? Manbat? Bane? Probably too sci-fi for Nolan to choose.
I personally want to see more villians be Nolanized, but how do you get a character like Riddler to stand on the threat level of Joker or the emotional level of Two-face?

What about Hugo Strange and Black Mask? The ending of TDK and comments made by Oldman suggest that in the third film - if there is one - Gordon will have to hunt down The Batman.
Strange could be hired to help profile him and come to the conclusion that he's Bruce Wayne. Meanwhile, Roman Sionis' business has been taken over by Wayne Enterprises, leaving him with a grudge against Wayne. Rather than Strange give Batman's identity to Gordon, he becomes linked with Sionis?
Okay, pretty basic stuff but TDK's strengh in terms of storytelling was that it was really character driven, and I think the team behind it could come up with something - possibly with a villian that would surprise us.
Hell, if it is true that The Riddler is going to be involved it's possible he could be involved in a scenario like the above. I'm positive that the Nolans and Goyer already have an idea in mind for where they'd be going - despite Chris Nolan not having committed to any sequel. |

It came out here (UK) today (or as it is now, yesterday).
It's 4.55am. The sun's coming up, the birds are singing. I've been to the midnight showing at the Imax in London.
What am I supposed to say to that? Someone tell me - because I really don't know.
I've always said that Star Wars will always be my favourite ever film. In the fullness of time I probably still will, but what I've seen tonight is the single greatest challenge to that. Batman Begins blew me away; it was that good. But this....
In comic movie terms, Heath Ledger has turned in the performance of all time. I remember posting just after he died that if the Dark Knight was out tomorrow, I'd be so put off that I probably wouldnt even go. Time has moved on a little since then, and I think the simplest way I can put it is this; for a couple of hours tonight, his performance was so breathtakingly spectacular that I almost forgot the sheer human tragedy that young man (and his family) encountered. If he doesn't win an oscar then whoever does should give the stupid thing back.
But as if that wasnt enough, we also had Harvey/Two-Face! How good exactly was Aaron Eckhart? Brilliant.
I could go on about the Harvey, Alfred, Lucius, the bike, the stunts, the scenery, the dialogue, the bank job, the pencil scene, the hospital scene, the truck, the death of Gordon, the twists, the turns all night.
5/5 or 10/10 - name your price and I'll match it.
Too good to be true.
