Ledger on The Joker in The Dark Knight:

talked to Heath Ledger, who mentioned The Joker in The Dark Knight:
Come January, he starts playing the Joker, in Christopher Nolan's next Batman film The Dark Knight. "It's definitely going to stump people. I think it'll be more along the lines of how the Joker was meant to be in the comics, darker and more sinister."

also got a quote from Ledger about the role:
I wouldn't have thought of me, either. But it's obviously not going to be what Jack Nicholson did. It's going to be more nuanced and dark and more along the lines of a Clockwork Orange kind of feel. Which is, I think, what the comic book was after: less about his laugh and more about his eyes.

He's probably going to have some funny bits for me, but then again I'm a dark person.
I'm hoping more for the guy to scare you half to death; I want him to be crazy, Norman Bates crazy, I want him to be scary in line with a Alfred Hitchcock thriller.

See we might not think the jokes or lines he says in the movie is funny, but whats actually most important is that their funny to him and I think thats what makes the character so psychotic. Heath Ledger says that the joker is going to be closer to along the lines of Clockwork Orange...for those of you who seen that old time movie which is one of many great pieces from Stanley Kubrick I dont think we`ll be disappointed at all with the Joker. lol not too long ago I was worried about being disappointed, I`m glad to see that based on what Ledger said its not going to end like that for me!

I've not seen Clockwork Orange, but he gets that Joker's more about the eyes than the smile, so I believe he's going to nail it.

A Clockwork Orange-type Joker could be very disturbing indeed, and I can see it fitting the character well. In fact, pretty much any of Alex's lines would sound right coming out of the Joker's mouth. |

And even though I guess we`ll be focusing on the Jokers eyes here more than his smile, that glare Alex gives which the movie opens up to captures both the evilness in that smile AND his eyes!

I'm not positive, but I don't think these comments have been posted. Ledger speaks his mind on comic book movies. Pretty interesting, to say the least...

well hes entitled to his own opinion, as well as him liking BB BB is more than a super hero movie, its a great emotional flick, showing the problems of a human being, not how STRONG or how many buildings someone can lift. Although i dont really think heath ledger will be a good joker...

I understand what Ledger's saying about comic book movies, they are boring. Most of them, with very few acceptions, are just an accuse to get some schmo director and give him a big budget and big special effects and a big intilectual property and see how much money they can rake in. I mean there are a few good ones, Batman 89 and X-men, and there are some excelent ones, Spider-man and Batman Begins.
But let's look at The Fantastic Four, even though they managed to get alot of the props right, it was still just one big string of cliches, they even changed some of the characters to conform the cliches. Remember Dr. Doom, they made him a clone of The Green Goblin; they even went as far as to steal the "CEO/Scientist who is about to get fired from his own company develops super powers (Killing a Doctor as he gains them) and kills the board members of his company to secure his job" sub-plot.
And some cliches they didn't even get right; The Thing's having trouble adapting to his powers, everyone thinks he's a monster accept one blind woman who he falls in love with. Now acording to the cliche handbook, he's supposed to have her as a girlfriend, never telling her he's a rock monster until the end of the movie and she decides to stay with him anyway. But in Fantastic Four, she finds out he's a rock monster in the scene where she's introduced; that's got to be the shortest sub-plot in movie history, and I ask, was that trip necisary?

I think that may've been done to show that, being blind, she's not as concerned with outer, physical beauty as the rest of us (which may be considering a cliche all on its own). Besides, how would she not figure it out immediately upon touching him? He's made of rock. :|
I watched that film the other weekend, and while I wouldn't put it near the status of my favorite Batman films or really consider it an "epic" superhero film (especially with music by Sum 41 in the movie), I enjoyed it for what it was. Ledger's comments are very radical, but he obviously strives for very realistic, high quality storytelling and that's what we're sure to get with Nolan.

radical why though? just because he doesnt enjoy corny superhero movies like batman and robin? i didnt think they were radical, i think his ideas made sense, but im STILL not happy about him being joker

This would include X-Men, Spider-Man, and any others that most of us consider quite good. And he used a lot of foul language when referring to them, which conveys strong feelings. Thus, they're radical feelings.

Acording to the cliche handbook, he dosen't let her touch him until the end of the film.
I also admit I enjoyed the movie a bit; mostly because Jessica Alba and Cobalt Blue go very, very well together. Also, like almost all Marvel films, it had a succesful prop transition from comics to film.
Hulk: the Hulk looked like he did in the comics, as a side effect he looked nothing like Eric Bana.
Daredevil: Daredevil's costume looked great, even if he was played by one of the most wooden actors in America.
Spider-man: My favorite costume in any movie is Spidey's in Spider-man 2.
The Fantastic Four: I loved Doom's mask in this movie, and the Fantastic Four's costumes were great to; Alba looked great in her's.
X-men: As cool as the costumes were, they were barely recognizable, however; the Blackbird was spectacular. And some other props were good to, Scott's Visor... I'm sure there were others. Oh, and in X3 Beast wore a shirt that was direct conversion of Wolvie's ultimate shirt, and it looked great.
You'll note the middle three all take huge inspiration from the comics, but have each evolved in their own way. It's also interesting to note that they all have made major changes to the villians costume.
P.S. I noticed the credits of Fantastic Four list a Velvet Revolver song; but as I was flipping between shows I missed it, anyone notice when it was?

I believe it's when Johnny Storm is being introduced as he's kissing a girl while riding his motorcycle. I can't think of the title, but it's a good song and fit the scene well.
I just realized, Velvet Revolver's been on at least two Marvel movie soundtracks. Their very first single - even before the release of their debut album, I believe - was "Set Me Free." It was featured on the Incredible Hulk soundtrack.
