Revealed on the Superhero Hype homepage, a licensing sheet for The Dark Knight was recently posted online. Here's Warner Bros.' plans for "The Year of the Bat":
- A direct-to-video anime-style series that takes place in the time period between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, and further explores the Batman legend.
- Multi-platform videogame inspired by The Dark Knight.
- Extensive consumer products range to support both the new film and classic Batman brand.
- DC Comics will publish an extensive range of material surrounding The Dark Knight including a comic book adaptation of the film, coffee table books, children's activity books and more!
You don't get it, boy... this isn't a mudhole... it's an operating table.

I LOVE the idea of an anime style animated tie-in to Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Ideally, I hope they'll get any of the top anime creators from Japan to work on it, but doubt that'll happen. However I am excited for it. Also in a perfect world would bring back Kevin Conroy to voice Batman but since it ties in the two movies, they'll get Christian Bale for it. If they don't, that'll be kinda disappointing.
I still can't wait for this one though. |

Umm... I'm causiouslly optimistic about the cartoon. I won't be excited until I find out who's involved.
I'm hoping they use a few of the writers from BTAS... And I'm hoping for Oldman, Caine, and Bale to reprise their roles. And I'm definitely hoping for an actual Japanese animation studio... It just wouldn't work with the WB's choppy animation.

It wouldn't work if they did the American mainstream Naruto anime style. So just any studio won't do. (If they do indeed use a Japanese studio)
However... There are many, very high-end, Japanese animation studios that do very fluid, high quality animation with designs that feature highly detailed faces and very rich textures and colours.
And when American companies work with Japanese studios, these high quality studios are usually the ones that are used. The studio behind Samurai Champloo, for instance, was used in both Kill Bill's animated segment and Linkin Park's Breaking the Habit music video.
However, with the cheapness of modern American production companies, I highly doubt WB would bother to go over seas to make an authentic anime when they could just do a sub-par rip-off (*Cough*Teen Titans*Cough*) for a lot less money.

I am really excited about all of this, especially the animated movie. But I am also worried about the quality. Especially from what I've seen from Teen Titans' attemts at anime style. Fantastic Four on the other hand is pretty good. I like the art, but when the get into the anime style emotions, and split screen kind of things, it's a little stupid.
I think they'll make this alot better than Teen Titans though.

"Anime style emotions" such as the vein poping out when someone is angry and the faces going simplified when they're scared are only American stereo types. A lot of lighter styled shows use them; but in reality it's actually used very little. Yeah, I didn't know how else to say it, but you understood me... Well hopefully the creators of this Batman movie have seen more anime shows than Sailor Moon, Pokemon and Dragon Ball Z!! I use to watch alot of anime and there are many that have amazing animation.

Yup... The one I'm particularly fond of is Gungrave. It has highly realistic, yet somewhat stylized, designs and beautiful animation... It has great semi-gothic, semi-sci-fi feel; great contrasting colours and a lot of visual metaphors. If they could do Batman like that I would die of joy!

since it's probably gonna be pg-13, and related to the batman begins/the dartk knight movies...i'm expecting it to look similar to the new highlander anime movie or final fantasy 7: last order.
but man...i've always wanted an anime styled batman. not pokemon anime, but REAL anime. have u guys read "batman: child of dreams"? THAT is how a batman anime would look.
