Hey:
Why hasn't anyone done The Dark Knight Returns. That would be a great movie with Clint Eastwood as Batman.....Will it ever happen?

As much as fans a wanting the combination you mentioned, I really don't think that Eastwood would be in a comic book movie. Also Dark Knight Returns is probably a story that they would not want to do in movies. They would not be able to do it accurately and still keep it under an R rating. Anything but an exact replica of the comic (like Sin City) would anger a lot of fans.

Eastwood is a horrible choice. Batman in DKR is a huge musculer, monster of a human, while Eastwood could be broken in half by a lizard's tongue. As for Eastwood in the director's chair; his speciality is artistic masterpieces, DKR is film-noir meets political satire... Not even close to Eastwood's style.

I'd personally like to see Miller, Rodriguez, and Tarantino work together on a Sin City level replication of TDK. I'm a huge fan of all three of them, so Sin City was a nerdgasim for me.
Rouke would be a good choice, and since he wore make-up as Marv he'd be slightly less recognizable as the Dark Knight.

yeah, he could play a great bruce wayne. i wonder what they would make the DKR suit look like on live action. I would love to see them take a v for vendetta approach to this film(if it happens that is) with gotham as a hell hole full of gangs crazier than batman ever dealt with in his golden days. I want to see batman rise and start to take his city back in a revolutionary way, leaving marks similar to those v left in v for vendetta to let people know who just came back to take his city back forcefully one more time. imagine as soon as we see batman come back for the first time in the movie he would come in and we would get quickly cut images of him beating down some gang members in a building then we get treated to a huge fiery bat sign on the side of the building to let people know what just came back, i think that'd be SICK

Yeah, Mickey Rourke would be great in that role. Or Michael Madsen. |

The suit would probably be very much like the one in Dead End; Black and Grey cotton, with a mencainglly organic looking cowl and leather boots, gloves and cape.
Personally Rourke's my number one DKR Batman choice, mostly because of his grizzeled face.

i'd like to see something that looks like cloth like you said, but is also slightly armored. Batman in DKR is not at his best at all obviously. He's fighting through severe arthritis in almost every part of his body, he's fighting through slowing down and most of all he's fighting through age so his suit should be a bit more heavily armored

heavily armored? that would slow him down and it would be mroe of a burden. he'd probably get a heart attack while running, lol.

SLIGHTLY armored, if you read DKR he mentions that he uses the bat symbol on his chest to attract gunfire to his chest, where he's the most heavily armored. In the comic book world we can get away with saying that you wouldnt see the armor through CLOTH, but not in real life. Thats why i'd like to see a slightly armored cloth suit

I now I?m going to alone on this one, but I would like to see Adam West as Batman in The Dark Knight Returns. The only thing is he could not do his camp style. I think Adam can act serious if he needed too. He certainly has the age covered pretty well and I think there is enough action left in him for one more take on Batman.

In DKR Batman's only armor was a bullet proof vest.
While kevlar vests are tight enough to be hidden under clothes; the tougher stuff can't. But then again Nolan got away with making Nomex look like rubber; so I wouldn't mind a skin tight uber-vest

I was just discussing this idea with my brother the other day. We both immediately agreed that perfectly reflecting DKR into a live action film would be impossible, so needless to say, it was a very brief discussion. Miller's style, combined with the fact that Batman physically changes throughout the story, make it tough to imagine a real-life DKR.
As for Clint Eastwood, he's got a great character for it. Hell, he helped define the anti-hero that Miller's Batman appears to be strongly influenced by. He has a realistic physique for his age, but of course Miller's is monsterous and disproportioned. A compromise would have to be made on Miller's style no matter who the role would be given to. Beyond that, it may not be too unrealistic a project.

If fans could shake the character they remember him for, you might be right, but that's practically impossible. Neat idea though. I bet he actually could pull it off well, if not for that that '60s silliness haunting him.

well, yeah, thats a given. But i think its silly for someone to think that a DKR movie would be just like the book. Many things would have to be changed for it to work. Many things where changed for BB and nobody seemed to mind it. As for batmans size, its not humanly possible to find someone as big as he is the in book, let alone a guy that big that can ACT. I'd be fine with someone like Mickey Rourke who isnt overly huge but too small, he's a big guy and would look really good as batman in DKR

What? I guess we're of a differant mind, 'cause I can invision a live action Dark Knight Returns quite easily. Have you seen Sin City? In the comic the character Marv had the exadurated TDK physique; and Rourke had the perfect physique for him in the movie. Look at the Deadend costume, the way it clings to his muscles and the way the emblem stretched across his chest; it could work well for DKR.
And Bats didn't change too much in DKR, he kept grizzled features, grey hair and burly muscles; all thet really changed was him shaving his stache, his suit being replaced and the art style.

A DKR movie would be amazing. They'd have to do it like Sin City & do it exactly, but they'd have to split it into 2 parts. It hasn't been made because the execs think it's too costly, & it's too edgy for a comic book film. Hopefull 300 & Watchmen will make them think again about DKR.
As far as casting...
Live: Bruce Willis, or Mikey Rourke (each in prostetics to make them look exacty like Bruce)
Animated: Clint Eastwood, or Kevin Conroy |
