I have no idea who made this or who it's based on, but it's the coolest manip I've ever seen.
Marge: Homer, I've got someone here who can help!
Homer: Batman?
Marge: No, a scientist!
Homer: Batman's a scientist.
Marge: It's not BATMAN!!

Conrad Veidt, from the 1928 silent film The Man Who Laughs. A lot of people think his role was part of the inspiration for the Joker. |

They(Bill Finger and Bob Kane) actually did. Alex Ross also used it as the inspiration for how he draws the Joker, with the black tuxedo and all.

Has anyone seen the movie? If the Joker was inspired by this character, then the character was probably more quiet and deadly the way Kane and Finger depict him, rather than the over-the-top Joker we have today.

From IMDB:
Gwynplaine, son of Lord Clancharlie, has a permanent smile carved on his face by the King, in revenge for Gwynplaine's father's treachery. Gwynplaine is adopted by a travelling showman and becomes a popular idol. He falls in love with the blind Dea. The king dies, and his evil jester tries to destroy or corrupt Gwynplaine. Unlike in the original story by Victor Hugo, the lovers escape to France.
Easily the best Joker smile ever put on film, and it was over 75 years ago. I'd actually like to see it, too - from stills that I've seen, Veidt does an amazing job of conveying emotions while that horrid grin is still on his face. |

Yeah, the original image of that is shown in the book The Complete History of the Dark Knight. A one-shot comic came out last year with the same title as that movie, exploring The Joker's first appearance in Gotham.
That manip almost loses the Joker trademark without the crimson lips, but it's still really cool. Looks like what Tim Burton would've wanted to do with The Joker.

I think the dark green looks fine but if I had photoshop I would definitely make the lips dark red.

Yeah I agree on dark red lips, but I think the dark green is over used too much on a way, but yea definatley something like that is what the joker should be for the next movie!

Sounds like a creepy movie.
I hope they get someone who looks kind of like that, I want to see somebody who acually looks like The Joker. Jack from the '89 movie didn't, neither did Ceasor Romaro (or however you spell his name).
