The problem with B & R was this:

Before each shot, Sch. would say,"Remember, we are making a COMIC BOOK MOVIE."

THE "SECRET" to Batman movies is playing it as straight action/drama. The ANIMATED Batman does that EXTREMELY well.
Heck, even in all the corny wackiness of the 60s Batman, the reason the camp worked was that it was played very straight and serious with all the odd visuals and humor.
The same is true of the Avengers with Steed and Emma Peel. They had weird plots, among much other strangeness, yet the seriousness of the acting kept it from just being silly stupidity.
James Bond bounces around between real seriousness, action, and camp.

Camp in and of itself is not bad. Heck, the industrial design on Forever and B & R is actually VERY GOOD (with many of the same influences as the Animated Series). The problem is that the director took a less than serious approach to making a "Comic Book movie."

I am left wondering I he EVER read Batman comics, besides the Superfriends TV series (then used that as a base and ran with it to his own neon-embibed world of nipples and cod-pieces-> I'll stop before I go into political incorrectness and stereotypes that do not apply to most of the "included" people anyways).

Personally, I like the 1989 Batman and Batman Returns (if a bit slow). The BEST are Mask of the Phatasm and Sub Zero. Mystery of the Batwoman is OK (better than forever OR B & R), but not as good IMHO as the first 2 animated movies.
Of ALL the live action/animated renditions of Batman, BTAS/NBA captures the feel/look/spirit of the Batman comics FAR better than anything else. It just "works" and the creative team "gets it."

Batman Forever and Batman and Robin, These two movies were a waste of film. They should of never been made.

i agree with you now i rewatched all the batman movies and b&r is definately the worst then forever then the 60's i still don't think begins is the best it's good but over rated but way better than the shoemucker crapfest movies.

I really need to free up some time to finish this, but how would you guys react to seeing an "article" (for lack of a better word) on Batman: YTB titled:

"Dr. Fries-ray (or How I learned to Stop Worrying and Love Batman and Robin)"

Basically I look at how that movie is not really so bad, and how it includes some elements used in the movie that many people (even a few of you posting in this thread) think make their ideal version of Batman.

I am not saying it is not a bad movie. I just think that people are too passionately agreesive towards it.

Very true. I remember reading a quote somewhere by Schumacher where he discussed the production of Batman Forever and how its a "comic book movie." He said something along the lines "So you can throw logic right out the window."

I kinda see what you mean. I think it's more about the time period that made it acceptable than anything. When I watched through a VHS tape filled with Batman & Robin related interviews this past year, I remembered the hype behind it and how it was basically an exaggerated version of Batman Forever in terms of style. The way I see it, Forever was so successful (better than its predecessor anyway) that Schumacher built up some confidence for a follow up and decided to just go all-out in his vision. Of course, Batman & Robin stronger emphasized those bad Schumacher elements and became what we know it as today. But it did include some nice scenes that people may fail to recognize.

Well, the reason I like Batman is because he is just about the most three-dimensional Comic Book Super Hero. So my favorite is Batman Begins, and the worst IMO is Batman & Robin.

But oddly enough I like all the Batman movies since Batman 89, the Burton ones because I like there dark feel, Forever because I loved when I was a kid, Begins because it's a near perfect replication of the Comic's characters, and Batman & Robin because I love a good bad movie.

So I guess my least favorite 66 Batman, because It doesn't give me any really strong feelings what so ever.
