THE DIGITAL BITS reports that Batman Begins will be released in HD-DVD format on March 28, 2006. The '89 Batman was one of the first DVD's produced (the first one I saw in the mid 90's), so it is really cool to see Batman in the next generation of home video.
According to the article, the first players for HD-DVD will not be released until March, and they have a price tag of $500-$800. Definitely something for the hardcore movie fan. So don't despair that your copy of Batman Begins is obsolete.
Don't worry, your version is not useless. Your DVD player will not play these.I really don't see massive amouts of people going out and buying the next generation of video players until the prices are more like DVD player prices are now.
SuperheroTimes.com has a report from WB that says that Begins will also be released in Blu-ray format.
For those that aren't too familiar with what these are, either HD-DVD or Blu-ray are the next step similar to the recent transition from VHS to DVD. The first time I saw a DVD was in a custom audio video store almost ten years ago, so we have a few years until the new format takes over like DVD has. Also the both kinds of players are reported to be backwards compatible so people won't be forced to upgrade all of their movies.
