I think I stumbled onto something. There are two different named versions of the new DC Universe Batman

Crime Stopper Batman on the left and Classic Detective Batman on the right
So is the name change (on both front and card back) a running change? Is one version going to be more collectible? They both share the same Asst# and SKU#.

Looking closer it's not just a name change Crime Stopper Batman (left) has a just slightly wider "fatter" head than Classic Detective Batman it also does not look as long or "tall" either and the eyes are just a little different too.
The different head appears to be the only difference, but I'm not taking either out of the package until I know which one the rare one will be. I may save both and look for more Batman figures today. Has anybody else noticed this and which versions have you seen?

the Crime Stopper one is the rare one. Mattel chnaged the name.
"It's tough to come up with any criticisms for this figure. I guess the only thing I don't like about him is the hokey "Crime-Stopper" label that Mattel gave the figure. But that's really inconsequential since they changed the name of the figure to "Classic Detective Batman" halfway through the production run."

Nice find Flabat. I might have to resort to buying these online because none of my stores seem to have them..

Thats not offical. Last year at Toyfair, it was called Classic. So it could in fact be a chase..

Basically.. yes. We call it a "Chase" because they are more rare and harder to find. A Variant is the same figure only slightly different, like color, weapons, names, ect.. So while a Chase is usally a Variant, not all Variants or a Chase.
(is that confusing?)

I don’t understand the name change and wonder if this was Mattel’s lame attempt at a Chase Figure. Of course they could have just made a mistake like they did with the “Blue Knee Pins” Batman a couple years ago too and corrected it along the way.

Where did you order them from? I've been seeing them at Targets, but no pegs at Wal-Mart.

On another board, another collector with both figures says he does not see a difference in heads. So far he is the only one to weigh in on this and I hope more people who have both figures will put their two cents in too. I agree that the in package photos don’t show much of a difference, but two things stand out when looking at the figure in person.
1). The wrinkle lines above the eyes and nose are more prominent on Classic Detective. They are deeper and easier to see. Crime Stopper has just faint wrinkle lines. These can be seen in the photos if you look closely.
2). The black on the cowl of Classic Detective is more of a semi gloss with a bit of a shine while Crime Stopper is flat with no shine at all. The flash in the pictures shows this too.
It could be the heads just look different in the package, or it could be the mold changed slightly (wear and tear) during production or maybe they have different factories making the figures and there is a slight variation between them. The difference is very, very slight, but to me it still looks like one head is just a bit wider than the other. I do concede that it could just be the above factors that make them look different.
I still can't figure out why the name changed. It cost Mattel a bit to redo the card back and bubble insert and both names are good names, so why change it? I can't recall another figure that had a name change during the production run, can anybody else?

No, but you know they are also changing Red Tornado, instead of a Chase figure, they are just changing it from Classic to Modern, and the same will be for Firestorm in Series 2.

I do see the stronger forehead wrinkle/scowl on Classic Detective, but without seeing them in person, it's too hard to tell if it's just a matter of different lighting to know how strong the difference really is. Same goes for the head widths because of the angles they're turned. But I'll take your word for it. I would think it's just a slight, unintended difference in production.
This is the classic Batman figure I've been waiting for for a long time. It used to be I'd buy some Mattel figures in addition to their DCD incarnations, but if these look as good as the photos show, I might end up buying the entire DCUC collection and not need any other versions of these characters. It's just too bad their $10 each. I can't imagine there ever being better versions of these characters, unless you're the type to favor less articulation or a certain artist style.

So i just got my Series one in the mail today and they are awsome! I paied 60 bucks thinking i was going to get 5 figures and they were charging me for Rex Mason but it turns out i got double red tornados and the rest of the series. I was pretty happy to see that i didnt lose out on 10 bucks paying 60. The weird thing is that i didnt get the varient Red tornado, just 2 of the classics. To bad i didnt get the two differnet Batmans

I don't like the black front of the cowl while the rest is blue. I know its supposed to be like the old style but I was never really a fan of it. For now, I'll stick with the previous version of Batman toys. |

I'm hoping we don't get alot of repaints.. maybe later, a redeco of Harley, or Aquaman, Green Lantern.. but we have enough redocs of Batman.
