Have you guys seen these sets of figures?
http://forums.superherohype.com/showthread.php?t=281723&page=9

Scroll a little more than halfway done, maybe 3/4 of the page. There you'll see more multicolored Batman figures.

It also looks like the Batman Hyper figures have removable shoulder pads. Notice on the figure with Bruce's head, the left shoulder pad is missing. I don't like how the cape isn't scalloped.

I like some of them, but that Banarama Batman has to go.

Man, the basic 5" Batman Begins line of variant Batman figures had better colours(Either black, grey, or blue mostly) compared to some of the basic Batman 5" variants of The Dark Knight figures(Yellow, green, etc). Still, some don't look too bad. That said, for The Dark Knight suit in all black, I'm defently getting the 6" verison. But if the 5" Dark Knight line has some variant Batmans in blue or grey jumpsuit, I may get those as well.

To me to this date, the only figure I think that actually pulled off a yellow jumpsiut looking good was the Batman Returns Scoba Batman figure(Eventhough I sort of wondered why the suit was yellow when I was a kid), and maybe 1 the upcoming Mattel DC Superfriends Batman variant figures(Need to see it in person before I can judge that 1). All others have looked really bad.

Big Bad Toy store has pretty good listings of what each series will be...

http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/menu.aspx?menu=1569

The Batman sculpts with monsterous body armour are for the light-up series. And remember how I complained about them using ninja Bruce? I take my word back, cause they're using an awful body sculpt now.

Mattel is in the business to sell Toys. Their core market is NOT the Collectors like us, but Kids and their Parents, so they break it down like this.

BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT BASIC FIGURE ASSORTMENT: This line is for the kids with a few that collectors might like. So a Bananarama Batman and a few of his other Technicolor Batsuit variants will be in this collection.

BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT LIGHT UP FIGURE ASSORTMENT: This line is going to be what the Batman Begins Power Tek line was. All Technicolor Batsuit variants aimed only at kids.

BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT HYPER ASSORTMENT: This is the larger scale collector line that we will want.

Cause God knows a movie about a vigilante who dresses like a monster fighting a psychopthic, mass-murdering clown has child marketability written all over it... Do they even watch the movie they make toys for anymore? The average 6-10 year old will be terrified of this movie.

Maybe this Halloween they can come up with some nice Saw V toys too, you just know the kids adore the psychopathic murderers!

Why the hell don't they get real? The movies aimed at adults so the merchandise should be to.

Well when you put it that way... LOL

Still most kids know Batman, so Mattel will market the figures that way regardless of what the movie is like.

With all due respect, Joker didn't blow up hospitals filled with people in BTAS... Infact, none of the villains were anywhenre near scary, they were just foils for Batman. Now we've got someone who is on the Hannibal Lecter side of things, he's going to kill lots of people, and he's going to look frightening as f***.

So you're honestly saying if you saw Silence of the Lambs or another movie about a psychopthic serial killer when you were 6 years old you would have enjoyed it?

dude, the dark knight isn't going to be a horror movie.

even if there are deaths, that's not the point. they probably won't be on screen anyway. the movie will probably focus more on batman's growth as a crime fighter, not joker. we won't even know his origin or real name.

i think i was exposed with too much violence as a kid, and you're expecting way too much out of a pg-13 movie. i STILL think kids will enjoy the movie just as much as any one of us. it's batman for crying out loud.

Let's look at Star Wars Ep. III, A bunch of heroes were killed off and the main character was burned alive and turned into a villian (all in PG-13) as I recall hearing a hell of a lot of kids cryed after seeing the movie because of all the violence... And this one didn't have a scary clown doing the killing.

And I'm not saying Joker will be the focus, but think about the trailer? What causes Batman's growth as a hero? Joker's carnage.

"Starting tonight people will die", "poeple are dying, what would you have me do?", "he crossed a line", and all the images of random explosions and people running in panic.

Just because it doesn't have violence on a level of Silence of the Lambs doesn't mean that Joker killing people will be any less impactful. Batman's sympathy is his strongest trait, when people die they won't be written off as "cannon fodder", they will make it clear they ARE people dying.

It's PG-13 for a reason, teenagers and adults will be able to handle it, but it's too violent and dark for the 6-11 year old crowd.

However in Return OF The Joker, he did use that beam to blow people up...

Back to the toys, what kid will like a yellow Batman?
Batman is the dark Knight not a night light.

Here is what I saw years ago hunting down a BTAS Poison Ivy figure in a TRU. A kid had two figures in his hand, one was the hard to find Ivy and the other a Batman variant. The kid wanted a Batman (and I wanted Ivy), but his Mom talked him into taking Ivy since the kid already had other Batman figures. So the kid caved in to Mom and took Ivy.

A Batman in any color is cool to a kid and Kenner proved that starting with TDKC when the very first variant was introduced. Hasbro kept up the practice, if not outright making it an art form. Then what was Mattel to do? Change and go against 10 years of sales numbers, no they did the same thing.

Im not against any variants but put some thought into it.
The creative team has been slacking and the all yellow Batman proves it.

My personal take on these (having just looked). Oh dear, a lot of those are really not fantastic.

The most obvious example of that (to me at least) was Superman Returns. Given that it was DCs last blockbuster before this, it doesnt exactly inspire confidence. From an adult point of view I think the toys that accompanied that were the single biggest let down in movie tie-in history. They were rubbish. Everything was so lame it was untrue. Its no surprise that TK Maxx was over-run with Superman Returns junk for months afterwards (and even now you can still find the dregs of the SR range in tatty, torn boxes - with £1 stickers plastered all over them). For example (off top of my head), can you seriously imagine George Lucas Inc making such a phenomenal marketing belly flop????

I had a yellow Batman when I was 9. In his defence he was wearing really cool spelunking equipment.

But anyway, even if kids aren't frightened by the movie, it's not going to be a kiddy block buster; so they are going to be stuck with lots of toys left on the pegs (if they even get there with the way Wal-Mart is running things). I still say they should target exclusivly to collectors.

But then again, maybe Wal-Mart won't pick up collectors toys unless they're accompanied by kiddy toys? Maybe the atrocious "Lemon Zapp" Batman is helping in getting the Hyper figures in stores near us?

i think marketing towards kids is the best route. i'm pretty sure little boys like playing with action figures more than adults like collecting batman stuff.
