What is Deathstroke The Terminator and Firefly doing in this series?
Well, TDK only has two villians, and since those to aren't child friendly enough to warrent a million figures they need to fill the gap by taking characters from the comics and "Nolanizing" them. I do believe Nolan aproved the characters' designs though.
As far as the Hyper Figures, I recall websites saying there would be four figures, but we've got two Batman (the TDK armour one and the crazy ass Begins armor one with the Scarecrow nightmare head), the Joker, Joker's goon, and Two-face... That's five, closer to the original statement of 6 figures.
Speaking of crazy ass Begins Batman, I sure hope that head is interchangable with an actual cowl head..
Are you saying that Deathstroke The Terminator is child friendly? LMFAO, the guy killed his own son, Jericho for crying out loud. Not exactly Father Of The Year.
As for Firefly isn’t he already dead in the Comic Books? Or should I say still dead?

Are you honestly telling me that 6-9 year-olds follow the complete history of comic books like Teen Titans? Deathstroke isn't in the movie, so they don't see him doing anything like that. So to the average kid he'll just be that guy from the Teen Titans cartoon.
And for Firefly, DUDE, He's alive in the cartoon, why the hell wouldn't be able to live in movie continuity?

My point is that Deathstroke and Firefly are NOT in the movie and DON’T need to be in the figure line for the movie. When have they done that in the past 5 films? The only one I can recall is Robin in the Batman Returns figure line. However, Robin was set to be in Batman Returns at one point so a figure was made, but Robin was cut from the film.
All the other movie figures had variants of Batman and whatever villains were in that particular film. No extra NON FILM characters were added to make it safe for kids. So why are they starting to do it now?
For that matter 6-9 year olds should not see this movie, but you know some will. However, everybody knows about The Joker and Two Face from other versions of Batman so 6-9 year olds who DON’T see TDK will have no idea how violent the character is. So they will play with them they way THEY see the character, not necessarily how the film portrays them.
FlaBat, I'm not a Mattel representative, and I'm saying there doing the right thing, but I'm telling you what they're thinking.
I agree that the characters shouldn't be in the line, but for them having four villians is better than two... I think that they think Begins line bombed cause it had only three villians.
As for kids playing with toys how they see the character, you've got to remember why companies make action figures for movies in the first place, to cash in on the success of the film and to sell kids on the film. If you buy a kid a Batman toy with a banner that says "The Dark Knight", then the kid's gonna want to see it.
I think they should've just released the four horsemen collecter's figures, but remember it's a business. Batman sells well with kids so it doesn't matter that the films ssubject matter is not child marketable. Money is the bottom line.

The banana Batman looks like a doofus even in his face. But I had "Sea Claw Batman" when I was a kid, and I believe I liked it pretty well. Still, I'll always remember wanting a "regular Batman" figure, but could never find one. The first one I ever bought was "Detective Batman", it was in the first line of figures for the The New Batman Adventures.
The only problem I have with the normal Batman in the basic line (for TDK) is that he looks a little too shiny. Maybe he'll look better when it's released.
I like the Hyper figures pretty well, I'll definitely pick one up if I can.

From what I recall hearing, both Deathstroke and Firefly are in the upcoming The Dark Knight video game based on the movie, and this is how they appear in the game. That's why Mattel is making figures of them, to help add some varity to their 5" The Dark Knight line. Some companies that do movie toylines(Espeically ones based on a superhero) are now also doing figures based on the movie video game, and not just the movie it's self.
In recent times, making figures that appear only in the video game verison I think actually 1st started with video games based on the current/4Kids/2K3 verisons of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon series. In the 1st game, there was a Giant Mouser which looks like a moster like Mouser robot that only appears in the video game. As well, the Turtlebot was also in the game, and while the Turtlebot appeared in 1 episode of the series, it's colours in the game are different from the show. Both of these figures were released by Playmates in 2004. Now of course, with all the secondary figures Playmates released in their orginal Ninja Turtles toyline from the 1980's-mid 1990's, it's possible that some of those Non-show characters could of came from a Ninja Turtles video game or 2 from that time. And for all I know know, Hasbro could of been doing this for their Star Wars toylines since at least the mid-1990's or around after Episode I was released.
The 1st Movie based toyline to start doing figures based on a movie video game in recent times was the 2005 Fantastic 4 Movie line, in which in the final wave or 2 of the line, ToyBiz expanded the line to include 2 bad guys who appears in the Movie Video Game, and based on how they appear in the game. They were the Doombot, and Annihilus. Most toy collectors really went after the Doombot, because even if it didn't appear in the movie nor was it based on how it's design in the comics, many still thought it was a cool design. As well, Annihilus was pretty popular too, but not as popular as the Doombot. I recall even reading some who said they wouldn't go after movie toys wanted to get either 1 or both for their comic book toylines.
I think the buzz generated from these 2 F4 Movie Video Game figures got others to start considering adding Movie Video Game only characters into their main Movie toylines. This continued with 2006 with both Metallo and Mongul in Mattel's Superman Returns: Man Of Steel toyline, while in 2007, Hasbro decided for their 5" Spider-man 3 line, to release some movie video game characters into the toyline, which include Scorpian(2 verisons, 1 I think based on the 1st movie video game, and the 2nd from the 3rd movie video game), Karven(1st movie video game, and I think Karven was an exclusive to only 1 consule verison), Mysterio(2nd movie video game), Black Cat(2nd), Rhino(2nd, whose costume is based on the Ultimate verison of Rhino), Shocker(All 3 movie games, whose costume is exactly like his comic book counterpart), Lizard(I think he's either in the 2nd or 3rd game), and Vulture(Don't remember which movie game he's from, but I do know that Vulture was in 1 of the games). As well, the 2007 Ghost Rider Movie line had both Scarecrow and Vengance, both of who only appared in the Ghost Rider Movie Video Game.
For Hasbro's 6" Spider-man Movie Trilogy figures(The ones in the newer yellow packaging, not the Build-A-Sandman wave), the 2nd wave will consist of re-releases/slight repaints of Toy Biz's 6" Shocker and Ultimate Rhino from their Spider-man Classics line, since they also appear like this in the Spider-man Movie video games. These will be coming out sometime in late Sping/early Summer 2008.
As well, Hasbro's Iron Man Movie 6" line this year will include Titinium Man, and while he isn't in the movie, he is in the upcoming Iron Man movie video game. In Titinium Man's case, people are either saying they won't get him because he looks nothing like his comic book counterpart(Espeically since in the comics, he's a giant while in the game, he's the size of the average human. Plus, the design doesn't scream Titinium Man), or that they would get him, but use him instead as a Guardsman from the prison for supervillians in the Marvel Univerise known as The Valut, since the design looks pretty similiar. There may also be another 1 or 2 characters from the Iron Man Movie Video Game who maybe created in the Iron Man 6" line.
I personally don't mind if toy companies do this. For a movie toyline, which really can sometimes only consist of a Hero or 2, and between 1-3 villians(Depending on the movie) from the actual movie, having characters based on the Movie Video Game actually helps boster the movie toyline. It also helps customers with other options and add ons, instead of another version of the movie verison hero(es) or villian(s) that they already have from that same movie toyline.

Where'd you hear this? Cause I've been scouring the web for ANY news regarding the TDK game and I've found bumpkis. Gamespot doesn't even have a page on the game. I haven't seen it officially mentioned since that "year of the bat" press release almost a year ago. And the only "news" I can find is an ancient rumour that Pandemic is developing it.
