Hey,

I was browsing through the action fig gallery and noticed that in 2000 the "world of batman" line was really just recolored versions of the DKC and Returns batman line by kenner. What are the chances they'll use those molds again? Maybe they'll be a little less crazy with the colors next time if so. I would really like to see the good ole standard looking figures on the shelf again as opposed to the out of proportion figures of today. If anyone's heard anything please post!

Yeah, the only likely way I could see these being reused is as a sort of "retro" theme as you said, batmania, and that seems highly unlikely. Most importantly, their scale, look, and overall design don't fit in too well with modern Mattel figures. It's interesting to note that the Keaton and Nicholson likenesses were not used in the World of Batman line, most likely due to Hasbro's loss of rights to them - not to say that not having them would ruin the figures necessarily; it's just interesting and proves that the line wasn't 100% laziness, having forced them to produced new, generic head sculpts.

Anyway, it would be interesting to see the old Keaton body repainted in a modern comic book style with the oval-less chest emblem and such - maybe with some retooling on the ears, belt, etc. But heck, if I want it bad enough, I'll customize one myself.

There is almost no chance we?ll see any retro molds from TDKC, BR, or even BTAS because Mattel does not have the molds. We might see them re-use more of the molds from the overseas figures. They?ve already used Bat Signal Batman, Battle Board Robin, Superman, Bane, Scarecrow, Mr. Freeze and Killer Croc (with a new head and no tail) so I expect we?ll see more of those used again as the line continues on.

I would love mattel if they did some classic lines like batman89 in their own style or BTAS figures after all that show is 15 years old and still no tribute but one thing I think all of bat-fandom has been waiting for is a Duck vehicle and a movie accurate style of the penguin from 'Returns is was inexcuseable to not release this vehicle after all it was in 75% of the movie and it was a drag that instead of the cute duck we got a lousy umbrella jet and unforgiveable that kenner didn't even give us a Returns accurate Batman and the penguin especially I was about 5 or 6 when that movie was released and had the toy and even at that young naive age I was still dissapointed that it had no likeness of Devito and that Batman had no armor physique

Long story short I want my penguin Duck Vehicle Damnitt!!!!

I'd really like to see a line of '89 movie figures released in 2009, commemorating the 20th anniversary of that film. They could release a line in the style and scale of the DKC figures, and a DCSH style line in the 6" scale. I'd buy 'em all.

Yeah, but by the time of Batman Returns, Kenner apparently didn't see the small modifications in body armor as good enough reason to make a whole new body sculpt. The original 1990 movie sculpt was a Super Powers retool itself, so it wouldn't have expected to see anything more than some more slight retooling, which wouldn't been appreciated nonetheless. I was pretty young at this time, too, and I was somewhat annoyed with this, especially the Super Powers Penguin.

As for Mattel making entirely new movie figures, I'd be very interested in that, but I imagine they'd would have to re-acquire all the actor/actress facial likenesses, which seems almost out of the question for a company focused on making modern kids' toys. DC Direct would be most likely to handle such a deal, and given their recent work with the Linda Carter Wonder Woman statue, perhaps it wouldn't be too outlandish to hope for some following through on this into other movie or TV franchises.
