In the recent ( September, 2007 ) issue of Lee's Toy Review magazine, if you go to the Variant Hunter page, you will see that the writer who wrote it has an article about what he calls the " Psoedo-Smooth Grill " verison of the Hot Wheels 1:64 scale 1960's T.V. Batmoblie. Basically, the person states that also, because the " Honeycomb " texture/pattern mold of the Batmobile has been used so much, that the front grill pattern has worn down a bit ( I believe this is also referred to as " Mold Degration " ) , so when the extra paint goes on the texture, it causes it to look smooth. The writer does verify that the smooth grill variant exists ( Incase there are any doubters out there ).

The writer also states there are ways to tell if the smooth looking grill Batmobile is actually the variant or the texture one with extra paint on it. Basically, the Honeycomb texture one has the parttern not only on the grills, but also on the front lights, and at the back. Meanwhile, the actual smooth verison doesn't have any of the Honeycomb texture anywhere. So for those who are hunting for the smooth grill variant, if the Batmobile has texture either on the lights or somewhere at the back but the front girll looks smooth, then it's not the actual smooth girll variant, but the " Psodeo-Smooth " grill variant Batmoible.

Since I bought 2 of these Psodeo-Smooth grill Batmobiles for someone ( Who I will give to them soon ), I can verify this. And like I said earlier, if you have some really good lighting, you might be able to see the faint Honeycomb pattern on the grills as well on these Psodeo-Smooth girll Batmobiles. Just thought I pass this along, and for those who either have the magazine or can somehow read it, I suggest you check out the Variant Hunter page/feature inside it for more info.

Any news on the 1/43 or 1/50 Batmobile.

Several sites that were taking pre-orders for the car no longer list it. However, all 3 versions of the 1/18 one are on there. I also don't see the 1/24 one either.

So, are the 1/43-50 and the 1/24 ones canceled?

The 1/43 has been cancelled, but there was never supposed to be a 1/24 from Hot Wheels (there was a 1/24 GADM and several 1/25 resin kits, though). As far as I know, the 1/50 '66 is still on for early next year.

I wondered what happened to all the hype Mattel made about the '66 Batmobile. So far only 1/64 the 1/18 SDCC versions ever showed up.

1/50 strikes me as an odd size. 1/43 would have been better and I was hoping for one to add to my Batmobile collection.

Looking more, I found a 1/50 Batmobile "assortment" listed for $59.99. The Animated (B:TAS, not the revamped) one was shown.
It is SUPPOSED to be:

Hot Wheels designers pay tribute to the Batmobile with this assortment of 1:50 scale models! This series delivers a variety of Batman vehicles from every branch of media, including television, movies and the comics! Done on a larger scale, these beauties are loaded with the kind of detail that drives collectors and Bat-fans absolutely wild with anticipation!"

From what I've heard, Mattel was less than impressed with the 1/18 cars that they received, so they sent them back for some retooling (and hence, the release date got pushed back). Since the 1/64 were never supposed to be truly accurate and the SDCC cars were pretty much promotional items before the "real thing" came out, they were acceptable.

The 1/50 thing is because Mattel has been pushing that scale on a lot of their releases. They likely want to make their cars stand out from the crowd.

Yep, it's true. They're going to be doing a comic car, the BTAS car, and the Tumbler to go along with the 1/50 '66 car. They will also be doing a '60s Batcycle.

Now I am VERY excited about the set that I pre-ordered!

Also, many of the "1/43" ones are closer to 1/50, anyways. Not the size of a number of the Corgi cars in light of precise 1/43 cars. They are a bit small.
We all already know the Ertl "Batman" Burton/Furst car is a good bit smaller than 1/43.

Yet, as ALL these cars are NOT REAL, that's fine by me. I assume the 66 car is large enough as to look fine in 1/50 near 1/43 scale 40s and 50s cars. It should be smaller than a 57 Ford and larger than a 55 T-Bird. So, it should be OK with my 1/43 cars on my Lionel/O-Gauge layout.

I am MOST excited about the BTAS car, which is one of my absolute favorite Batmobiles of all time.

So, is the Batcycle also 1/50 or is it bigger (as Hot Wheels tends to do). I am guessing it will be scaled close to the ones they are doing in the $1 blisters.
Correct?

Are all 4 in the assortment? Is there another as well (for the price, I am assuming 4 cars)?

Spencer's Batmobile site:

Three new Batmobiles have been confirmed as added to the Mattel 1/50 scale lineup: a comic-based Batmobile, the Batman: The Animated Series Batmobile, and the Tumbler. They wiull also be releasing a TV series Batcycle to go with the TV series Batmobile.

Any news on WHICH "comics Batmobile" . . .?
I am hoping NOT one of the ones Corgi has already made, with high hopes for the 90s
Super-Batmobile or the first post-No-Man's-Land sleek sports car (my 2 favorites).

No, no word yet on which comic car. And technically, the BTAS car is only a strong liklihood...it could technically be one of the other animated cars. I'm basing this on multiple sources, though, so it should be pretty solid.

The Batcycle is supposed to be 1/50, but I don't know if thats's going to be a true 1/50 or not. The smallest motorcycles usually go as individual diecasts are 1/35 scale...so it could be the same length as a 1/50 car (and even labelled as "1/50" ), but in reality would be a larger scale.

I agree with you 100% about Batmobiles having more flexibility than other cars. True, we know what size the TV & movie cars really are, but the comic cars will often change size from panel to panel. It gives us as collectors & builders a little more leeway than, say, Ferrari collectors.

I am thinking the BTAS car, as one of the "Assortment" sites (listed in a post above) uses a picture of THAT car, which is NOT the previous cast of that car:

I’m just not digging this 1:50 Scale. I wish Mattel had looked at what 1:43 Batmobiles that Corgi did and then did different ones. Say a BTAS or TNBA Batmobile along with maybe the Batmobiles from the five films and a few Comic Book versions that Corgi did not do. This way the collector could have a collection of all the different Batmobiles all the same scale.

It's been reported that the standard verison of the 1:18 scale 1960's T.V. Batmobile is now out, at least in the U.S. It sounds like the U.S. price is arond $30.00. Here are 4 links with some pictures and info about the standard, with the 1st to the 1966 Batmobile website(Which if you look at the recent postings, has pictures and/or info about both the standard and both verisons of the Elite Batmobile), and the last 3 from the 1966 Batmobile message boards, with the 2nd on tips on how to make the Standard Batmobile more accurate to Batmobile #1 on the show(Most of it paint, while some do require a slight customization. From the sounds of it, the Standard isn't going to be 100% accurate, but more around 85% accurate), the 3rd because it has a comparison picture of the 1:18 scale with 2 other vehicles on the 3rd posting of the page, and the last has 2 pictures on the last posting of the page(Bottom of the site):

- http://p218.ezboard.com/f1966batvehiclesfrm20.showMessageRange?topicID=136.topic&start=201&stop=217
- http://p218.ezboard.com/f1966batvehiclesfrm20.showMessageRange?topicID=136.topic&start=181&stop=200

Even it it turns out that the Standard verison isn't going to be 100% accurate, it's still the closest(I mean, 85% is still good enough for me), and it won't bother me, because it still captures the look and feel of the car good enough, not to mention the overall shape. Once this comes to Canada, I'm defently going to get it.

Some more reviews and pictures of the 1:18 scale 1960's T.V. Batmobile. 1st, here are some links from Hollywood Die-cast, with the 1st to the main site(Look for the date and title 2/21/08 - "Atomic batteries to power! Turbines to speed!"wink, while the reminding links below are to the pictures from the site:

And here's a review that someone did on YouTube, which also includes some info on how easy it will be to customize the Batmobile so that it is properly more accurate to the show(Most people have it say that it isn't 100% accurate, but it is fairly close. Some of the inaccuricies include the Batphone being too big, and the steering wheel not the right shape or something like that). Here's the link to the YouTube review:

I picked up a 1/18 at a Toys R Us at the Mall of Georgia store on my way home from Atlanta last Friday. It was the "normal" $29.99.
So, they DID make the retail stores, even if they don't last long when there . . .

Any news on the OFFICIAL release date on the 1/50 ones? I have seen people claiming to have them and are waiting on the "late April" release date . .

The "1/50" Batcycle was pictured somewhere next to a packaged 1/50 Batmobile. It looks to me closer to 1/24 to me . . .

Last night at around 11:30 P.m., I had
this little hunch that I would find the
1/50's...

So... I took out my motorcycle and did a
late night Bat Hunt...eek2

I went to one late nite Wal-Mart and zero...mad

I then rode to the Town of Shorewood, Illinois, just
five minutes from my City of Joliet, for another
Wal-Mart...

As I walked around looking like a T-1000 with my
motorcycle jacket and white police style motorcycle
helmet...

I see a long skinny box leaning against the end cap
of the die-cast section...

I then see the words Mattel Hot Wheels Batmobie
Assortment... SCORED!!!

I pull out my trusty Bat-Blade and cut it open...

I see 8 of each...

1966 Batmobiles, 1966 Batmotorcycles and
Animated Batmobiles...

No Tumblers or any JLA Batmobiles???no

So I take 5 1966 Batmobiles and 1 each of the other
two...

I should have took three, but I wasn't thinking straight
at the time...

They were in this long blue cardboard insert that is
used for a endcap...

I'll post up a picture when I get home tonite...

Happy Hunting...rolleyes
