I havent read any of these yet. I dont even know where I can get my hands on them. I know there is a Hardback special edition coming out in january of 09 that can been seen here but I would like to own the individuals as well. So where can I get these? Also below is some information on all the editions being released.
From WiKipedia
In an interview with Comic Book Resources, Grant Morrison explained that what's going to happen to Batman is "so much better than death. People have killed characters in the past but to me, that kind of ends the story! I like to keep the story twisting and turning. So what I am doing is a fate worse than death. Things that no one would expect to happen to these guys at all. This is the end of Bruce Wayne as Batman." [2]
At the 2008 NY Comic Con "Spotlight on Grant Morrison" panel, Morrison talked about Batman R.I.P. "When we begin to suspect the identity of the villain, I think it's the most, like I said the other day, it's possibly the most shocking Batman revelation in 70 years." [3]
DC Universe #0 offered some light on the potential plot of the series, with a scene between Batman and the Joker designed as a prelude to the upcoming storyline. In the sequence, Batman confronts the Joker about the mysterious "Black Glove", a villain who was behind the attempt to kill Batman during Morrison's "League of Heroes" arc in Batman #667-669. Joker, who has a deck of playing cards with him, responds by nonchalantly dealing out a "dead man's hand" on the table in front of him.

I'm not a fan of this at all. First, it's confusing. Second, it's stupid. I wonder how many people who watched TDK went ot get a Batman comic for the first time and read RIP?
I'm reading it just to stay in the loop.. but I really do hate it.

I haven't been reading it either.
See, every time I think to go out and start buying Batman comics they come up with a retarded idea... First, they bring Jason Todd back to life, now they get rid of Batman?! What the *bleep* are they going to do with the franchise after that?!?! Even if you CALL another character Batman they're still NOT BATMAN. It's like giving someone a damn gerbile and saying it's a golden retreaver!!!!
Rant over...
Though I'm hearing the stories themselves are interesting, so if the ending isn't too retarded I might pick up the trade...

I've yet to read anything myself but I was wondering what they are going to do. I didnt like batman beyond and I dont like when writers act as if superheros get old. |

I've read the 1st 3 parts (the actual Batman comics) and I didn't know if I was coming or going. By the end of part 2 I wasnt sure what was going on. Part 3 seemed to bring it back together a bit and I didnt dislike it so much after reading that.
Then, what I thought would be part 4 (the 1st Detective issue in the RIP arc) turned out out to be another story and was actually just a tie-in.
I'm behind on so much stuff that I decided I'll leave it til I've got the whole lot (it's various titles take in Batman, Detective, Robin, Nightwing and B&B) then I'll probably just start again and do the lot in a couple of days. |

hey, read this. a broader perspective on tim drake's character. of coarse i already know all of this, but you should take a read.
the writer of the robin issues gives his little schpeel on robin.
http://comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=16843
it pretty much says how robin probably can be the next batman, but won't be. but he might be anyways. which is confusing, but it might make more sense if you read the thing.
is this the end of bruce wayne? i freaking hope not. if all else fails, bring in terry mcginnis, and tim drake can be his mentor. now it'll be robin and batman, not batman and robin. ohhh yeah.

Check out my synopsis on the RIP issues in the comic section. I do my best to break everything down and put it in a more logical (and comprehendable) fashion.
I also did a write-up of the events leading up to RIP in the Story Arc page for the "Three Ghosts of Batman"
As for the arc itself? I find it hard to have an opinion because I don't really think anyone save for Grant Morrison knows how this will all play out in the end.

The more I read, the more I get confused. I'm not illiterate or anything but a comic is supposed to be enjoyable and fun. I wanna be relaxed when I read it and not have to rack my brain THAT hard
I'm not having fun reading.
Tony Daniels art work is something nice to look at though.

I have not been reading this for 3 reasons
1. my local comic shop just went out of bussiness, and i have nowhere to get comics now. GRRRRR!
2. I bought the first issue of the storyline and disliked it.
3. I don't get the fact that they are making major changes to the character of batman when he just was revitalized by the worlds greatest movie. Come on DC.
So can someone briefly tell what is going on in this storyline??? |

i looked at an issue, and i really had to scratch my head. there was a batman with like a purple and yellow costume, and batmite was there too. sooo weird. i'm probably gonna end up buying ht tpb when it's released. but just reading that one; i was confused like no other.

Anyone else picking this up. The last issue ended asking if we get it now. I still don't get it. Basically Batman has had some kind of attack on his mind and has become the Batman of Zurr En Ah (something like that). This Batman is pretty ruthless and acts more like Az Bats than anything. Complete with delusions of the city talking to him and Bat-Mite. I think that 681 is the final issue, so everything will click into place.
I have consistently read people saying that you have to read annotations if you're not enjoying this or are confused. I haven't because it is a comic book not Hamlet or Moby Dick. I should not need Cliff's Notes to get through it. Hopefully all will come together in the next issue.

Batboy - I've edited your post with a big gap so it's not so obvious.
The whole post came up on the main forum page (when you hover over it) and it gave everyone the ending - whether they wanted it or not.
& I now know the end before I've read it!

Yeah, well... so I'm a little miffed.
This guy goes into the hospital, okay?...
His wife's just had a baby and he can't wait to see them both.
So he meets the doctor and he says, "Oh, Doc, I've been so worried. How are they?"
And the Doctor smiles and says, "They're fine, just fine. Your wife's delivered a healthy baby boy and they're both in tip-top form.
"You're one lucky guy."
So the guy rushes into the maternity ward with his flowers.
But it's empty.
His wife's bed is empty.
"Doc?" he says and turns around and the doctor and all the nurses wave their arms and scream in his face.
"APRIL FOOL! YOU'RE WIFE'S DEAD AND THE BABY'S A SPASTIC!!" |

Actually.. I'm not really following this to much, but from all the info I've read, there is no proof that Alfred dies.

Especially since Alfred is still very much alive in Robin #178, which is set after the main Batman: RIP arc.

The Black Glove's potential reveal at the end of the last issue was probably just a feint. That is too much like the reveal for Hush. Surely we wouldn't end up reading that similar a story less than 100 issues later.
As for the death, I've seen the rumor, but never any kind of confirmation. I am pretty skeptical about anything like that until the issue is actually out.
